With the ever-evolving multiverse on Marvel’s horizon, imagine a game that lets you and your friend explore the life of Miles Morale and Peter Parker together. For many fans across the world, it was a dream come true to have Spider-Man 2 be a multiplayer game. After all, what can be better than fighting villains and defeating roadside thieves as popular superheroes with your best friend?

However, these dreams came crashing down when it was revealed that Spider-Man 2, like its predecessor, would be a one-player game. It made sense because apart from the Avengers, Spider-Man works alone and prefers taking down his enemies without hurting his close ones. The recent data breach in the Insomniac internal system suggests that the plans to make Spider-Man 2, which was internally envisioned as “Spider-Man meets GTA,” a multiplayer game were scrapped long ago.

The studios had an initial idea to let players play together as Miles Morales and Peter Parker. Nonetheless, they switched gears and instead allowed a singer player to switch between characters. Many fans were disappointed because playing Miles and Peter together with a friend could have been an amazing experience. However, it seems like Marvel and Insomniac did not want to shift from the narrative of Spider-Man being a lone wolf.

The plan to make Spider-Man 2 multiplayer may have been scrapped a while back, but the game did not disappoint fans. Iconic villains like Kraven the Hunter, Venom, Sandman and Lizard make an appearance in the game, furthering the difficulty with each level. Moreover, players are able to expand Spider-Man’s usual abilities with gadgets and suits that are tech-powered to make the neighbourhood fighter a formidable superhero.

Users from across the globe have showered Insomniac with love and support in the midst of these trying times. The hack has been condemned and fans are trying to help in any small way they can. Social media platforms are filled with users showing their support.

Bloomberg’s newsletter suggests that the internal data of employees as well as game ideas and business plans have been hacked by a group named Rhysida. The catastrophic hack comes during the much-needed winter break where employees went on leave to enjoy time with their families. However, now they are constantly on their systems trying to see if their information got hacked too. Both previous and current employees at Insomniac are worried as the hack is dangerous to their personal details as well.

Moreover, hackers released 1.7 TB of information on the dark web that included glimpses of upcoming games like Wolverine and even employee performance reviews. Even though the company is holding regular talks with the members of the team, they are reportedly not doing enough to curb the spread of data or stop hackers from getting more details. They released a statement to address the hack and their plans for other games. The relaxing holiday season has turned into a stressful time for everyone at Insomniac.
