However, there is one blunder from the makers that the audience has caught up on.

Squid Game Season 2 editing mistake caught the audience’s attention

After a three-year break, Squid Game returned with season two starring Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, Park Sung-hoon, and more. The plot follows individuals who are in dire need of financial help volunteering to play a deadly children’s game to win a whopping prize of ₩45.6 billion (US$31.1 million).

Fans all over the world dived into watching the dystopian survival thriller series’ second season, but one eagle-eyed fan caught an editing error during a pivotal moment in the finale. In the final episode, Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, and the remaining players stage an attack to finally bring the games down once and for all.

But as the fight broke out in dormitories, the group faked their death and lured the guards sent to dispose of their bodies into a false sense of security. As soon as the guards enter, the group opens fire on them and steals their weapons while heading to the control room.

During such an intense and pivotal scene of the final episode, fans caught a cameraman crouching in the corner for a shot. Although he was only visible for a split second, fans did manage to catch onto that. A user shared online,

Someone noticed the cameraman caught in the scene of episode 7, around 22 minutes and 38 seconds.

Another user noted, ‘Bro is definitely losing his job after that one.’ While another mentioned that they had to go back to watch the blunder made during the filming.

Despite an editing error and fans expressing their disappointment with the season ending on a cliffhanger, critics and audiences have appreciated the series. It became the most-watched title on Netflix in its first week. Squid Game was nominated for Best Drama at the Golden Globes 2025, but it was Shogun who took home the award.

According to reports by Variety, the series has managed to record 126.2 million views in just 11 days of release. This record marks Squid Game as the first Netflix series to ever achieve such massive viewership in just eleven days of its release.

Squid Game 2 ends on a cliffhanger, making fans frustrated

There is no doubt that the release of the second season of Squid Game had everyone on the edge of their seats, but the ending is what left them disappointed and frustrated.

The cliffhanger ending of season two, where Player 390 dies in front of Gi-hun, who is Player 456, by the Front Man, sets the stage for the finale season of Squid Game.

Creator of the show Hwang Dong-hyuk spoke to Deadline , explaining why the season ended on the note that it did. He shared,

I felt like there was a big turning point, or an inflection point, and that was the end of episode seven, so I thought that it would do justice to have a separate season after that. That’s why I had the first seven episodes as Season 2 and then the rest as Season 3.

Dong-hyuk teased via Netflix’s Tudum that season 3 is going to be the second chapter of Gi-hun and the Front Man. It can be expected that Gi-hun will most likely take revenge for his friend’s death, but his spirits have been crushed, and the post-credit scene showcases new players walking into a new game room that includes a train signal stand, a hanging doll, and a boy doll facing the first. Not much context has been given about it, but it seems like another round of Red Light, Green Light but with a deadly twist.

The cliffhanger ending may have frustrated a lot of fans, but it has surely got them talking about the show, which is going to prove beneficial for the third and final season.
