“Strap Me to a Chair and Put Mariah Carey On”: Cameron Diaz Was Threatened by Mariah Carey at Restaurant After Making Fun of ‘All I Want for Christmas’ Singer
Mariah Carey has amassed and earned a horde of fans since she first gained popularity in the 1990s. Carey has held the top spot year after year for the past several decades, and her music has consistently dominated the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Despite the fact that some of Carey’s hit songs, such as All I Want for Christmas Is You, have devoted many fans to her kitty, it appears that not everyone enjoys her music.
Every coin has two sides. Critique comes along with admirers. And actress Cameron Diaz used to have some very strong opinions about Carey’s music. Sometimes, criticism can come off as a little bit mean. Similarly, actress Cameron Diaz had some harsh words to say about Carey’s music during the 1990s.
Cameron Diaz suffered from Mariah Carey’s music
Mariah Carey’s debut compilation album was released in 1998. Even though it was released less than ten years after her debut album, it was given the title #1. The album included Carey’s first 13 hits that peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was difficult to believe that Carey had achieved so many number-one hits in less than ten years. When her single Touch My Body reached the top of the charts, she broke Elvis Presley’s previous record. And after 25 years since its debut, her holiday anthem All I Want For Christmas Is You topped the charts again in 2019.
But actress Cameron Diaz has opposite opinions of her. She revealed that the best way to drive her crazy was by playing Carey’s music. “If you really want to torture me, sit me in a room strapped down to a chair and put Mariah Carey on, over and over again,” she ranted. Naturally, Carey was offended by this remark, and she wasn’t going down without a fight.
A confrontation with Cameron Diaz by Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey, who is known as the “ultimate diva,” obviously didn’t find Diaz’s remarks amusing at all and later disclosed that she had confronted the actress about disparaging her records. Carey told FHM about the time she went up to Diaz while the two were at a New York restaurant a year later. When asked if she confronted Cameron Diaz with the intention of “slapping her or grabbing her by the throat,” Carey replied, “Not by the throat,” but added that it created “quite a scene.”
The actress reportedly told Carey that “her words had been twisted” after the We Belong Together singer confronted her about the remark. After hearing that, Carey acknowledged that she had decided to be forgiving of Diaz.
