“Suffers from a form of malaria that surfaces from time to time; he has to live with this for the rest of his life.” Batman Star George Clooney Suffers from a Recurring Disease That Will Last His Whole Life
George Clooney is a man of many things. Clooney, being an actor, producer, and filmmaker, has established himself as a remarkable and influential figure in Hollywood. Moreover, his charismatic personality and charming look have made him a global heartthrob. However, the Hollywood star has faced significant health challenges frequently, subjected to severe diseases that almost kill 850,000 people every year, about every 38 seconds.
George Clooney contracted Malaria for the second time
Besides his showbiz career, renowned actor George Clooney has served a major part of his life in various philanthropic endeavors. He has been actively involved in humanitarian efforts such as advocating for human rights, supporting refugees, and providing aid to those in need.
It was observed that Clooney has had multiple bouts of malaria. According to Reuters reports, the actor was contacted by malaria in Sudan during the first week of January 2011. As per the quote from one of his reps,
“George is completely over the malaria he contracted while in the Sudan during the first week in January. This was his second bout with it. This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to a bad 10 days instead of a death sentence.”
The actor frequently visited the war-torn nation of Sudan to educate the residents on aggressive diplomacy to avoid another potential genocide. The trip was coordinated with officials from Google and the United Nations.
“It’s actually the second time Clooney has gotten malaria. More Clooney; it’s his second bout of malaria. Taking medication but feeling rough.”
News of Clooney’s illness first broke out in a Twitter post from new CNN talk-show host Piers Morgan. The Ocean Eleven actor was “taking medication but feeling rough.” the reps added.
Lack of research leaves George Clooney’s Malaria recurrence in uncertainty
Malaria is a parasitic infection that can reoccur in some cases, especially if the initial infection is caused by certain parasites, including mosquitoes. Clooney’s close friend and travel companion, Nicholas Kristof, confirmed that Clooney was diagnosed with malaria from a mosquito. “Somewhere in Sudan, a mosquito carrying the parasite bit him, and he has just recovered.”
Malaria, for those not too familiar, is bitten by mosquitoes carrying disease-causing organisms known as Plasmodium vivax. The Medical Express states that,
“Malaria can reoccur for weeks, months, or longer after contracting the disease. The malaria agent in Africa is primarily Plasmodium falciparum; P. vivax is the most widespread of the more than half a dozen malaria parasite species that infect humans globally”
