The cast of the show also included Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty, and more. The actors were highly appreciated for their work on the show, and the immense surge in popularity in 2023 prompted NBC Universe to start working on a spin-off series Suits: L.A. starring Arrow actor Stephen Amell. Despite being successful and popular, ardent law students and fans point out the things that the show portrayed wrong and were never pointed out.

Fans call out the Suits for the inaccuracy of a lawyer’s day-to-day life

USA Network’s Suits centers around a fictional New York legal firm, Pearson Hardman, starring Mike Ross played by Patrick J. Adams and Harvey Specter played by Gabriel Macht in the lead roles. The two actors were highly appreciated for their performances, but over the years, fans have realized that despite the show being so popular and hyped, it does have its loopholes.

One of them was both Mike Ross and Harvey Specter being experts in every area of law, which in reality is not possible. It’s because real-life lawyers specialize in a specific area of law and do not work on any case that comes their way. The show represents a glorified version of a law firm, which looks good and impressive on-screen but in reality does not sit right with fans and people who are aware of the situations in the law industry. ScreenRant notes,

If the show-runners of Suits were going for accuracy, Harvey and Mike would be forced to refer a lot of their work to one of their peers.

The publication explains that in reality, lawyers who work out of small and general practice handle various areas of law, but successful attorneys from a large firm specialize in one particular area of law. One of the major things is becoming a lawyer without actually going and completing law school, as a law firm would never hire an associate who does not have a degree, no matter how smart he/she is.

Another thing that fans and publications noted was the glamorous lives of lawyers showcased on the show. The show was also known to have lacked realism, especially when considering that attorneys do not have such a glamorous life in reality. Of course, when working for a large and good firm, there are perks in terms of money, but there are drawbacks too.

Show-runner Aaron Korsh reveals Suits was based on a real-life story

In his interview with Collider in 2016, Aaron Korsh was asked about the feeling of writing a show, asking if he had an idea what he was getting himself into. He said that his path was very different from other showrunners that he met at the time, adding that he went to business school, was a finance major, and worked on Wall Street as an investment banker. Korsh noted,

It was originally written that they were investment bankers on Wall Street. I worked for a guy named Harvey; I had a good memory, and I had a dalliance with marijuana. A lot of the basis of the show is from that. But I found that very unsatisfying as a career and ended up leaving. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and then ultimately, I came to Los Angeles, not to be a writer but just to live.

The show-runner acknowledged that he was an incredibly inexperienced show-runner, as he had 14 years of experience watching different show-runners and how they behaved and handled situations rather than actually writing for a while and then jumping to making a show.

Korsh mentioned that he has always been honest about the work and efforts he put in. He said he knew he could be right or wrong, the show could have worked or failed, but what he was assured about was the effort everyone had put in for it to be a success. Despite some errors and loopholes in the show that were overlooked, Suits is one of the popular and well-celebrated shows.
