The movie is going to follow Eddie Brock and Venom on the run while being chased by the people from their respective worlds. The two of them are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on their last dance. Venom is one of the most complex yet greatest characters in the Marvel Universe, and so is the antagonist, Knull. Knull’s co-creator addresses the character’s presence in the upcoming movie.

Co-creator Donny Cates talks about Knull in Tom Hardy starrer Venom: The Last Dance

Knull is regarded as one of Marvel’s most notable and powerful supervillains. He was created by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman and was commonly associated with Venom and Carnage. The character is later established as an unseen enemy of Thor and Silver Surfer, as he is behind Gorr, the God Butcher, in his mission to hunt down and kill various deities.

The newly released trailer for Venom: The Last Dance showcases that the character would be making its debut on-screen, and fans are thrilled. The details of the movie are being kept under wraps for the most part, which suggests that the studios want the trilogy to go out with a bang.

Knull is the oldest god of all symbiotes, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out in the movie. Co-creator Ryan Stegman took to his social media to share that he didn’t know until now that Knull was going to be in Venom: The Last Dance. He added that he finally will be able to afford the lazy river moat around his house, hinting at getting his due compensation for his work.

However, Knull’s other co-creator Donny Cates took to his social media to share,

I’ve been talking with Sony, and I read a script for Venom: The Last Dance, and I’ll say this: it is so much bigger and so much more ambitious than you can imagine. And um…KNULL. Holy S**t. That’s how you treat a king.

The character is said to be one of the best villains that could have been set up against Eddie Brock and Venom for the trilogy finale. The actor who’d be playing the character is still unknown, but ardent fans are thrilled and excited to see a Knull making its on-screen debut.

The excitement is similar to what was seen when Gorr, the God Butcher, was introduced in Taika Waititi’s Thor 4 and was played by Christian Bale. However, fans were disappointed after the movie’s release and how the character was written.

Knull co-creator Donny Cates’ statement restores fans’ faith in the supervillain’s debut on screen

After Donny Cates decided to share his take on how Knull would appear in the upcoming movie, fans expressed that they believed the co-creator’s words for the character’s inclusion in the movie. Cates’ statement restored their faith in studios doing their absolute best to write and execute the character the way it should be.

One of the users said that if the creator is involved in the project, then there is nothing to worry about. Another user agrees by stating that if Cates is saying that he likes it, then it has to be a positive sign for the movie.

Their doubts about the studios being faithful to the adaptation come from the disappointing portrayal of Gorr, the God Butcher in Thor 4. Ardent fans have suggested the studios refrain from adapting the comic book characters for live-action when they cannot do justice to it. Gorr was one of the most psychologically complex enemies of Thor, and despite Bale’s exceptional acting skills, fans believe that Thor: Love and Thunder’s director Waititi didn’t understand the potential.

Fans expected the movie to showcase Necrosword’s origins tied to Knull, who is the one who corrupts Gorr’s mind, but the movie failed to showcase that. They believed that the actor was underused for a part that could have been more of a major highlight for his career if done right.

One thing that fans were highly disappointed not to see on-screen was the depiction of the extent of the trauma that the character endured in the comics. However, Bale was highly appreciated for giving his best for the part despite the movie receiving mixed reactions from the critics and audience. Thus, Cates’ statement for Knull restores their faith, and they are now looking forward to the last dance with Venom and Eddie Brock, played by Tom Hardy!

Venom: The Last Dance is scheduled for release on October 25th, 2024.
