Stephanie Beatriz reveals how Andy Samberg felt while filming Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s pilot episode
Actress Stephanie Beatriz played tough and one of the most intimidating detectives, Rosa Diaz, in the fictional 99th Prescient of the New York City Police Department in Brooklyn. During an interview with uInterview, she talked about her fellow actor Andy Samberg, who played Det. Jake Peralta on the show.
The actress was asked about the funniest memory she’s had while working with Samberg, to which she goes on to say that it’s more like a heartwarming story. She shared that she had about $200 in her bank account when they filmed the pilot episode. Beatriz also added that no one knew if the show was going to get picked up or not, but everyone was hopeful.
We had shot a few scenes, and it was late night maybe, the third day of shooting, and we didn’t know each other very well, I was a Big Lonely Island fan, so I was nervous to be around Andy Samberg. , Melissa Fumero, and Joe Lo Trugilo were all sitting at Craft Services waiting for the crew to set up lights or something.
The actress continued that since they didn’t know each other well, they were trying to get to know each other, so they had coffee and tea while the crew set up the shot. She shared during the interview,
We all started joking around and talking about the people we had dated or, like, weird experiences in college, and we were all sitting there making each other laugh. And then Andy said, ‘I hope this goes because you guys are really fun to hang out with. It would be really fun to go to work with each other.’
Stephanie Beatriz admitted that they all looked at each other and realized it indeed would be fun to work with each other. She added that they all cared about each other, and thought that their love and care for each other showed on-screen because they were a tight-working family, who became a real family.
The actress’ memory of Samberg wanting the show to get picked up shows that the actor unintentionally manifested the future of the show by stating those words out loud in the universe to make it happen.

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine actress, during a launch event in Los Angeles in April, shared with People Magazine that she still is very close friends with Samberg, Crews, Fumero, and Peretti. She added,
We all love each other very dearly. I’ll never let those people go. They can try and get rid of me, but it’s not going to happen.
The actress recalled that after the demise of Andre Braugher in December 2023, the cast met for dinner in March. The cast dinner allowed them to connect once again and remember all the good times they had on the show while recalling all the good things about Braugher, who passed away after a private battle with lung cancer.
And it was a chance to talk about Andre. It came up immediately, and then we put it away for a while. But at the end of the dinner, by the end, we were all just sharing stories about him and our memories of him. And he lives in our hearts forever and ever.
Terry Crews also spoke to the magazine, where he mentioned that they laughed, cried, and missed Braugher, adding that it was their time to just think how special their time on the show was. He added that to have a sitcom go that long is very rare, and they all recognized how lucky they were, and that they will always be a family.
