‘Tangled’ Fans Will Be Mindblown After Seeing How Disney Brilliantly Hid the Film’s Entire Story in its First Scene Itself
- Disney's Tangled, which tells the story of Rapunzel, is one of the most beloved animated movies.
- One scene at the movie's beginning discreetly told the entire movie's story.
- There are certain things that some fans might not have known about Tangled.
Disney Princesses are some of the most beloved characters in the cinema world. One such character is Rapunzel whose story is explored in the movie Tangled. Besides the media conglomerate being good at making fan-favorite characters, it also excels at including little details that only die-hard fans would be able to catch.
One such detail is in the beginning of Tangled as well in the form of a prop. The baby mobile that baby Rapunzel can be seen looking at in the beginning of the movie is the prop that has the elements that can be seen as her adventure progresses.
Tangled’s Entire Plot is Hidden in the First Scene
Directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, Tangled is a 2010 musical fantasy that sees Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) break out of the tower Mother Gothel keeps her in with the help of the thief Flynn Rider (voiced by Zachary Levi), who stumbles upon the tower by accident. They embark on an adventure together which ultimately leads to her realizing her true identity as the lost princess of the kingdom.
At the very start of the movie, we see a baby Rapunzel in her cradle looking at a mobile that has 5 different charms and a sun painted on it. All these charms and the sun symbolize key elements of the story. The five charms are- a bluebird, a chameleon, a Cupid, and a horse.
The bluebird charm on the mobile is a callout to the birds that fly by Rapunzel when she first steps out of the tower. It also symbolizes the sense of freedom that she feels in the outside world. The chameleon, as one might guess, is Pascal, Rapunzel’s loyal and protective companion. The Cupid refers to Shorty, the little Cupid who plays a great role in Rapunzel’s romance with Flynn.
The horse represents Maximus, the determined palace horse who initially pursues Flynn Rider but later becomes an ally. The duckling is for the Snuggly Duckling pub where Flynn and his ‘band of misfits’ reside. It is also where Rapunzel finds unexpected allies.
While some might have already guessed these, others might have had trouble understanding the importance of the painted sun on the mobile. It symbolizes the Kingdom of Corona and Rapunzel’s true identity as the lost princess. The sun can also be seen engraved on the road where the Princess dances along with the citizens of the kingdom towards the end of the movie.
Tangled Facts That Some Might Have Not Known
There are certain facts that some Tangled fans might not know such as the fact that Rapunzel and Flynn have the biggest age gap of all animated couples when it comes to Disney Princess movies. The age gap is 8 years between the two as while Rapunzel turns 18 in the film, the wanted thief-turned-savior is 26 (via Screen Rant). This might be a little disturbing for some.
This might not come as a surprise to some but Rapunzel is one of the very few Disney Princesses who possess direct magical powers. This is not a common quality among Princesses as most of them are more likely to have unique qualities like talking to animals and having a wonderful singing voice.
One thing that some may have missed is that Rapunzel’s parents, the King and Queen of Corona did not speak a word throughout the movie except for the laugh from the King when they find the Princess. Despite this, their emotions can be understood from their expressions which is a perfect example of non-verbal communication.
