The cracks in their friendship began to show last year when Swift had nothing to say about Lively’s It Ends with Us or the drama that followed.
With the legal battle in full swing between Lively and Baldoni, people have begun taking sides as some believe that the director is guilty of the accusations Lively has made while others think that the Gossip Girl star is making up some of those things to defame him.
Right now, it is impossible to tell who is in the wrong, but it has definitely ruined their reputations and Lively’s friendship has also been caught in the crossfire. Moreover, some netizens believe that the Lover singer rides on the fame of her celebrity friends and dumps them when they get into a problem.

Taylor Swift once sang in her song End Game, “I swear I don’t love the drama, it loves me”, and that has turned out to be true multiple times throughout the years. Ironically, it was a song, namely Bad Blood, that laid the foundation of the friendship between her and Blake Lively in 2015.
According to PEOPLE, fans assumed that there was bad blood between the two when Lively referenced the song Bad Blood in one of her posts. However, she later clarified that she was a fan of Swift. Later that year, the duo was seen petting a koala when Swift was in Australia during her 1989 tour.
The duo’s friendship has only become stronger over the years as Swift is the godmother of Lively’s children and has also referenced the names of three of those kids in her Betty. In fact, the actress’s eldest daughter James opens the track Gorgeous on the Reputation album. Swift and Lively have been seen publicly for night outs and even a Chiefs-Jets game where they were joined by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
The Bejeweled singer has many other famous friends such as Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, and Ed Sheeran. However, she seems to have had a fallout with Lively amidst the drama between her and Justin Baldoni. This led to a netizen claiming that Swift uses her friends’ fame as leverage for herself.
Some people seem to agree with this take. However, it has to be noted that while her friends are famous, Swift certainly does not need her friends’ fame to better her position in the industry considering the global fanbase she has. Just because she has allegedly chosen to remove herself from a complicated situation, it would be wrong to assume that she has an ulterior motive behind befriending people from the industry.

Her name being unceremoniously dragged into the legal battle through Baldoni’s lawsuit is bound to affect her image negatively. So, she can hardly be blamed if she refuses to publicly acknowledge it.
Recently, a source has revealed to Daily Mail that Swift is distancing herself from the situation between Swift and Baldoni.
For the time being she is taking a step back from Blake because she doesn’t want to get tangled in this more than she already has – which is far more than she ever needed to be. Her friends also think that Blake’s “I’m Khaleesi, and like her, I happen to have dragons” text to Justin was uncool and unnecessary because she was essentially used as an intimidation tactic. She was referred to as some kind of pet or possession.
A second source has claimed that Swift has “politely backed away” from the situation and is rather displeased that her name was even brought up in all this. Hopefully, her friendship with Lively will get back on track soon.
