Taylor Sheridan’s Final Destination-Like Move In ‘Landman’ Episode 5 Just Proves His Writing’s Gone From Bad to Worse
- Landman episode 5 ends with a horrifying accident and fans are convinced it is a result of bad writing.
- Taylor Sheridan's writing is being held responsible for how Landman episode 5 ended.
- Even the first episode of Landman had signs that Sheridan is no longer at the top of his game.
Taylor Sheridan’s writing is getting progressively more dangerous, not just for his show’s characters, but also for himself as fans have begun to notice that his writing is getting sloppier with each new show. This time around, he is under fire for his show Landman, the fifth episode of which has been released recently.
Sheridan has always been a beloved scriptwriter, and fans love everything that he has to offer, but that seems to be rapidly changing with the release of each new episode of his show Landman. The fifth episode of the show featured a horrifying accident which fans have noted was too predictable, and it is not looking good for the Oscar-nominated scribe.
Taylor Sheridan Is Getting Major Lashback for a Scene in Landman Episode 5
Taylor Sheridan began his career as an actor, but that did not seem to work out in his favor. So, he switched to screenwriting and it has evidently turned out to be something he is incredibly good at. He proved his skills as a scribe when he worked on the scripts of movies like Denis Villeneuve‘s Sicario and the Academy Award-nominated crime drama, Hell or High Water.
His new show, Landman, set in the oil fields of West Texas, is a story about the people who risk their lives for oil and those who profit off it. In the show, Billy Bob Thornton plays the role of Tommy Norris, a landman who has plenty of drama in both his professional and personal lives.
While it has been made clear in the first four episodes of the show itself that oil rigging is a dangerous business, no one could have expected the death in episode 5. Towards the end of the episode, an incredibly frustrated worker gets up on a pile of unstacked oil field pipes only for them to crush him to death later.
For someone who has been in the business long enough to know its dangers, the worker’s move comes off as plain stupidity. However, fans are not stupid enough to not notice how this means that Sheridan’s writing is getting worse. Some Redditors have pointed this out in their posts.
This is not to mention that Tommy’s job description does not even fit the title he has. An article on Forbes has debunked the illusion that what Tommy does is the job of a landman. Even so, it has to be noted that this is a TV show and not a documentary so it does not have any educational value and is meant for entertainment.
The Signs of Taylor Sheridan’s Lousy Writing Have Been There in Landman Since the Beginning
Being a fan of Sheridan right now is both a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing because three of his shows, Lioness Season 2, Yellowstone Season 5 Part B, and Landman are airing new episodes currently. The curse is the fact that his writing is not getting any better.
The Tulsa King creator is known for making his viewers uncomfortable, but the scene between Tommy and his 17-year-old daughter, Ainsley in Landman episode 1 unlocked a completely new level. After confirming that Ainsley and her boyfriend are having s*x, Tommy asks if they’re being careful.
If that was not uncomfortable enough, her response stuns her father as well as the viewers. Here is what some fans had to say about it:
One thing that has become clear about Sheridan’s career as a scribe is that he can make anything work as long as it is neo-Western or something else along the lines of it. However, that does nothing to change the fact that his writing is getting worse and fans have not been particularly blind to it.
Landman is available for streaming on Paramount+.
