Taylor Swift Humiliated Meghan Markle by Rejecting Her Invitation to Now Canceled Spotify Podcast
The podcast Archetypes, hosted by the Duchess of Sussex, was one of the most well-liked podcasts last year and featured some intense exchanges between famous people and the former actress. However, the podcast’s second season was not renewed and the couple chose to end their relationship with Spotify.
According to recent reports, Meghan Markle invited a well-known celebrity to appear on her podcast; however, the celebrity chose not to accept the invitation. Let’s learn more about the famous person who declined to appear on Archetypes because it was perceived at the time as a source of embarrassment for the Duchess of Sussex.
Taylor Swift declined the proposal to appear on Meghan Markle’s Archetypes
According to reports by the Wall Street Journal, Meghan Markle had written a personal letter to Taylor Swift inviting her to appear on her podcast that focused on breaking the stereotypes about women.
But Swift reportedly declined the offer via her representative. According to Page Six, Swift was very flattered by the offer but she did not feel comfortable interviewing about her life as she is a very private person and does not like to talk much about herself. A source, however, added that Swift thinks Meghan Markle is a bit of a diva and does not want to spend time with her.
Some people have criticized the singer for being ‘rude’ and ‘unprofessional’ after the reports of her declining the offer came out while others have defended her right to choose who she does and does not want to spend time with. It was mentioned that Spotify’s Gimlet unit had helped the Duchess of Sussex pen down a list of potential guests that she could host on her podcast but finding the right kind of guest was a task for them.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry part ways with Spotify
Archetypes debuted in 2022 and features several guests including Serena Williams, Paris Hilton, Mindy Kaling, Mariah Carey, and more, and, has released over 12 episodes where they had conversations about some of the stereotypes faced by women.
In a joint statement, it was announced that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s production company, Archewell Productions, and Spotify have mutually agreed to part ways adding that they are proud of what they have done till now. A spokesperson for Archewell Audio said, “The podcast will no longer be produced at Spotify as we are mutually parting ways.”
It is being reported that even though the podcast was considered one of the popular podcasts and managed to reach the top of the charts, the former royal couple failed to fulfill their end of the bargain. The deal was each of them voicing and being directly involved in a podcast, but since they were not experienced in the podcast space, they lacked direction and underestimated the amount of work that goes into producing the content.
Was Meghan Markle the issue behind Archetypes’ not being renewed?
According to the reports, the team who struggled with finding an apt guest for the podcast did not just struggle with that, but in addition, Meghan Markle was also sometimes the issue.
The WSJ reported, “Meghan would often ask for changes late in the editing process, at times recruiting senior Spotify executives, including then-chief content officer Dawn Ostroff, to call producers and push them to make changes.” This attitude towards working sometimes annoyed the Spotify executives and it bothered them about how much time it was taking to conceptualize an idea for the podcast.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that Prince Harry had pitched a podcast to interview figures including Vladimir Putin, Mark Zuckerberg, and Donald Trump about their childhood trauma, which the executives believe was an outlandish concept.
The report also mentioned, “He tossed around subjects such as misinformation and his point of view as someone new to living in America and at one point considered co-hosting a show with comedian Hasan Minhaj.” These bizarre pitches made the executives puzzled and annoyed. However, it is also being reported that Meghan Markle is now continuing to develop more content for her Archetypes audience on a different platform.
