Michael Caine, the 90-year-old veteran actor, has a career spanning over eight decades. He witnessed the rise of cinema and the technological developments of all its eras. Caine most probably has the best stories and opinions on the changes the process of filmmaking has gone through.

Things have revolutionized to an extent that some aspects of filmmaking are almost foreign to Caine. Like intimacy coordinators. The job of an intimacy coordinator is to ensure the actors are comfortable while shooting intimate scenes. The need for these coordinators is a recent emergence and they have not been around forever. In a recent interview, Michael Caine shared his thoughts on intimacy coordinators.

While promoting his movie The Great Escaper, Michael Caine got candid on his views on intimacy coordinators. The actor was unfamiliar with the entire concept of having someone to guide you through an intimate scene with your co-star.

Caine barely had a clue as to what intimacy coordinators do. As he told Daily Mail:

“Really? Seriously? What are they? We never had that in my day.”

Caine was so repulsed by the whole concept that he was grateful for his old age making him unfit for romantic roles. As he told in his interview with Daily Mail:

“Thank God I’m 90 and don’t play lovers anymore is all I can say. In my day you just did the love scene and got on with it without anyone interfering. It’s all changed.”

Even as the experience of working in films has changed, Caine loves his job enough to try and keep up.

Not only the film industry, but the society as well has also revolutionized over the years. Being a public figure brings its own challenges. To say the politically correct thing and not hurt any sentiments is a crucial part of what celebrity culture has become.

And the legendary actor has been trying his best even if he doesn’t like it. As he told Daily Mail:

“It’s dull. Not being able to speak your mind and not being able to call anyone ‘darling. I try, but it’s hard. I like to learn from friends who are younger than me.”

Caine is in his 90s and not only does he give his best at work but is still trying to navigate the changes that are happening around him. That says a lot about the nature of life.

The Great Escaper will be released UK-wide on October 6, 2023.
