Shawn Levy directed the thirty-fourth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie follows Deadpool working with Wolverine from another universe to stop the Time Variance Authority from destroying his universe. The studios recently shared a scrapped version of Deadpool 3, and fans are divided over it.

Deadpool could have appeared in Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World and other MCU movies

Deadpool & Wolverine executive producer Wendy Jacobson recently appeared on the Disney+ documentary Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine. She went on to reveal that before Hugh Jackman got on board with the movie, they, along with Ryan Reynolds, were simply trying to figure out a story concept for Deadpool for the third installment.

ComicBook.com reveals that the studios and the actor had explored every angle under the sun to try to make Deadpool work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jacobson shared that while brainstorming the ideas, they came up with Deadpool being a part of Chris Hemsworth’s starrer Thor: The Dark World and other MCU movies. She explained,

Because of Deadpool 1 and 2, the expectations are just high, and we just want to keep one-upping everything we do. And I think that was proven in part of the early development process. I think Ryan had 19-20 ideas, throwing everything at the wall.

The executive producer went on to share further that while going through her notes, she noted that they had some crazy ideas, and at one point they spoke about a frame-for-frame remake of Thor 2 up until the mid-point. Jacobson noted that they had Deadpool’s Deleted Scenes Extravaganza, and they were trying to show that the character was in the MCU all along, but the audience couldn’t see him because his scenes were all on the cutting room floor.

Reportedly the second half would have told a new story and served as a proper introduction for Wade Wilson in the MCU. The publication noted that the scrapped movie would have included Thor’s crying scene teased in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds, who is very protective of his character, shared some pictures with the studios, which he shared in the new edition of Assembled. He said that he had pitched the studios a Sundance movie. He explained,

Not kidding. Like a $4 million budget Marvel movie with no action but a Deadpool suit. I pitched them mid-sized, big, small, and all kinds of stuff. I’d kind of felt like I’d run the gamut.

After hearing the executive producer’s scrapped idea for the third installment of Deadpool, fans are seemingly divided, with some praising the idea while some stating that it’s good that it never saw the light of day. A user commented, ‘This would have been hilarious, not going to lie,’ while another wrote, ‘This would have been a hilarious but basically plotless movie.’

A user who did not like the idea wrote, ‘It was good that all this was not shown,’ while another user mentioned, ‘It’s good that it’s scrapped; it would have been scrappier otherwise.’ Fans do love Reynolds’ Deadpool and suggested that it does sound cool, but it’s good that it did not happen.

Ryan Reynolds would love to return for Deadpool 4

Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the biggest and most successful movies of 2024, and Reynolds has been riding high on the success of his MCU debut. The actor is not only protective of his character, but he genuinely admires it and would love to return for a fourth movie.

In an interview with Extra, Reynolds was asked about a potential return as Deadpool for a fourth installment, to which he said,

I would love that, but there’s a reason it’s been six years since the last one. It just sort of swallows my life whole, and I have four kids that I wouldn’t mind introducing myself to at some point; just spend a little time walking them to and from school.

Ryan Reynolds has always been honest and open about how proud he is of Deadpool, and with the success of the third installment, he’s just overwhelmed with the response. He mentioned that he just feels really lucky to have been working with the crew, with so many people who are at the top of their game.

The actor mentioned that he loves every second of it, and it’s probably the only film he has ever finished that he mounted. He recalled that he was genuinely sad and a little depressed when they finished filming.
