Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was the end of Ford as the beloved archaeologist. The role has majorly defined his career, and he is not letting age slow him down. In fact, many feel his charisma has only increased with time, and Ford, staying true to his nature, receives all such appreciation in his own way.

Harrison Ford’s Still Got It

At the Cannes Film Festival 2023, Harrison Ford got more than he probably had imagined during a press conference for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. According to Variety, a female reporter complimented the actor on his looks, saying,

I think you’re still very hot, and we’re stunned to see you take off your shirt in the second scene, and I mean, you still got it. How do you keep fit?

The room understandably erupted in laughter because of the compliment and also because of Ford’s reaction, where he closed his eyes a couple of times after hearing he was still “very hot.” Ford, staying true to his humor, thought for a while and replied,

Look, I’ve been blessed with this body… Thanks for noticing.

Ford is among those rare minority of actors who are professionally active at this age and still manage to look “hot.” His collaboration and contribution to Disney Studios have been recently acknowledged, as he was awarded the Disney Legends Award at the D23 Expo. Ford thanked fans and his collaborators while receiving the award.

Ford was 81 at the time of the Cannes Film Festival interview, and the shirtless scene in question comes early in the film, which shows he is not shying away from showing his physique. But it is not just about the looks.

According to his co-star Mads Mikkelsen, Ford was a beast on set. Mikkelsen told The Hollywood Reporter that “he’s an insanely powerful person” physically. Doing action scenes at this age is no joke, and probably that’s why Marvel didn’t hesitate to bring him as the Red Hulk.

Indiana Jones is not the only action role Ford is killing in his 80s. He will be playing Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, and not just Ross, he is going full Red Hulk. According to Entertainment Online, when he was asked about fans finding his Hulked-out appearance attractive, Ford joked,

Well, you’re not wrong. I just gotta lay off the gym, though, I think.

Portraying Red Hulk required Ford to do a lot of motion capture work, which essentially means the actor will still have to move like his character. And since it is Red Hulk, Ford definitely performed some action scenes while enacting. Talking about his experience, he said to Variety,

I’m just saying you have to do certain things that normally your mother would not want you to do – or your acting coach, if you had one. But it’s fun, and I enjoyed it.

Ford also liked working with Marvel as he mentions the work being “free of some normal constraints to the imagination” to Screen Rant. In recent footage from D23, it can be seen that President Ross is transforming into Red Hulk while giving a speech, and the way Ford caught the mannerisms proves age is just a number for him.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is available to stream on Disney+.

Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
