“That ain’t happening”: Marvel Fans in Disbelief as Ezra Miller’s ‘The Flash’ Likely to Beat ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’
The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, is DC Studios’ upcoming blockbuster, and a press screening of it has already taken place. The film has already received praise (including from Tom Cruise) for being one of the greatest superhero films ever made. Considering this, The Flash could be a huge hit, based on what we’ve seen in the trailers.
Moreover, Box Office Pro predicts that The Flash will surpass James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at the box office. In contrast to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s $118 million opening weekend, The Flash is anticipated to earn somewhere between $115 million and $140 million.
Thus, The Flash has a decent chance of surpassing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
But it appears that this has not pleased Marvel fans.
Ezra Miller’s The Flash Is Likely To Beat Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
James Gunn wrote and directed the third and final installment of the MCU trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. Although this part is depicted in the movie as their final iteration, Gunn has discussed the possibility of the group continuing in some capacity in a subsequent MCU project.
Even though the box office performance of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 dropped by 40% between its first and second weekends, it still performed better than other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Some of them include the first Guardians of the Galaxy, its 2017 sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Ezra Miller’s The Flash, on the other hand, is anticipated to surpass Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at the box office. Compared to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s $118 million opening weekend, The Flash is expected to earn between $115 million and $140 million in its first weekend.
Therefore, The Flash has a good chance of outperforming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at the box office if it performs better than expected during its opening weekend.
How Do Marvel Fans React?
The third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, directed by James Gunn and based on Marvel Comics, debuted on May 5, 2023.
This movie tells the complete origin story of the first set of Guardians. The movie picks up where it left off in the Infinity Saga films— Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), as well as in Thor: Love and Thunder (2022).
But, Marvel fans don’t appear to be delighted with The Flash’s likelihood of defeating Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as evidenced by one commenter who stated,
“That ain’t happening.”

It is well known that Marvel Studios has been committed to telling more diverse stories. However, this time, there has been a mixed response from fans and critics, as evidenced by the numerous posts and trending tweets on the subject.
The Flash, on the other hand, will arrive in theaters on June 16, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is already showing in theaters.
