If you liked Warner Bros. pushing the boundaries by backing Greta Gerwig’s female-centric script that eventually transformed into 2023’s biggest hit, Barbie, then Marvel Studios has even bigger plans (or more progressive) up its sleeve for their fans.

The Marvels movie, which is penciled in to hit the theaters this November, will feature three female lead characters: Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau/Spectrum, and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel.

The excitement over Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani’s link-up is understandable, but if fans will head to the theaters expecting perfectly shaped characters who are in tandem with each other to fight the evil, then they’d most likely head out disappointed.

Is Brie Larson’s Character Troubled in The Marvels

The movie is the sequel to Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, and Secret Invasion, and accordingly shows Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) in a position where she has managed to reclaim her identity from Kree.

However, during a mission in an anomalous wormhole, she finds her powers entangled with super-fan Ms. Marvel and Spectrum, and the trio is tasked with battling Kree warrior, Dar-Benn.

The mixed messages from teasers, trailers, and other reports, ensure that the question mark remains over whether the trio would team up efficiently as The Marvels to save the universe. The same dilemma persists regarding how director Nia DaCosta will present the personality of each important character.

In June, the cast sat down with Entertainment Weekly for a Zoom session and shed more light on their thoughts concerning how the audience will connect with their on-screen versions. Teyonah Parris said:

“I’m excited that the MCU has three lead women, all from very diverse backgrounds, and they’re all baddies in their own way. It’s going to be really exciting just to see these smart, fun, intelligent, and troubled women find their way.”

Meanwhile, Zawe Ashton, who is playing the main antagonist, admitted she’s very moved by the influence of women in the whole project, stating:

“It’s this all-female sci-fi extravaganza, with a woman on the other side of the camera. I felt very moved, actually, being involved in it. It’s not an environment you’re often in — a huge-budget movie with all these badass women and Samuel L. Jackson. That just doesn’t happen.”

Larson has already scripted history by playing the first solo female lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Captain Marvel 2019) and she also shattered records by leading the film to a $1 billion collection at the global box office. DaCosta will hope to see the same response for a more complex and intimate portrayal of the famous character and her teammates.

Brie Larson Spotted at Taylor Swift’s Concert

There’s still plenty of time before The Marvels premieres, affording its cast a much-needed rest period before they get busy with promotions and predicting and calculating the numbers.

Accordingly, Larson was seen enjoying Taylor Swift’s performance in the sold-out SoFi Stadium on Thursday night. Swift started the LA leg of her Eras Tour in front of over 100,000 fans.

The 33-year-old Canadian-American actress was joined by the likes of Sarah Paulson and Mindy Kaling in cheering for Swift, whose tour will continue in LA for five more nights. Larson didn’t get any special spotlight. Instead, the iconic singer made sure to shower her love on Kobe Bryant’s daughter Bianka by giving her a “22” hat.
