“That one’s pretty horrific”: House of the Dragon Showrunner Might Have Hinted a Storyline Darker Than The Red Wedding That’s Still Unwatchable for Many Fans
Fans of Game of Thrones know to expect the unexpected, but even they might not be prepared for what’s coming in House of the Dragon season 2. The show’s Showrunner hinted at a storyline so dark and disturbing that it goes beyond the infamous Red Wedding in GOT.
The Red Wedding was a shocking and brutal massacre that occurred during the War of the Five Kings. It took place at the wedding celebration of Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey, held at the Twins, a strong fortress owned by Walder Frey. The festivities swiftly turned into a bloodbath. The guests were trapped and mercilessly attacked, causing a terrifying feeling of betrayal and helplessness.
House of the Dragon Showrunner Drops Hint of an Unwatchable Storyline in Season 2
Unlike Game of Thrones, which had a detailed book series as its roadmap, House of the Dragon has more creative freedom. While the show stays true to the core characters and events of Fire and Blood, it fleshes out the gaps left by author George R.R. Martin. This allows for a deeper exploration of the characters’ motivations and the evolution of their relationships.
Apparently, there are events in Fire and Blood so shocking that even mentioning them to the actors violates their Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs). Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower in the show, offered a chilling warning in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly about one of those scenes:
“God! I’d just say, it is Game of Thrones, expect the worst. Expect the very worst possible, and then double it. I dunno what else to say without heavily spoiling it, but it is heinous.”
Showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal added:
“A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones have really conditioned people to expect the unexpected and expect the horrible. But, yeah, that one’s pretty horrific. We’ll see what people make of what’s to come.”
These comments hint at a storyline that surpasses even the infamous Red Wedding‘s brutality in Game of Thrones. While details remain scarce, two words keep popping up: ‘Blood’ and ‘Cheese.’ These words seem to refer to a specific, horrific event that will likely be adapted for the show.
