“That sounds like a Total Recall ripoff”: Will Smith Set to Reunite With Michael Bay After 2 Decades But it Doesn’t Impress Fans
- Michael Bay helped Will Smith launch the high-grossing Bad Boys franchise.
- The A-lister duo is looking to work together in an upcoming action film for Netflix.
- Fans are somewhat skeptical about the premise of the forthcoming movie.
Will Smith might have been banned from the Academy, but he is well on his way to re-entering the hearts of the audience. Bad Boys: Ride or Die was the first step towards this, and to say the least, it worked well enough in his favor. For his next venture, he is set to reunite with Michael Bay.
Smith and Bay have previously worked together on the first two Bad Boys movies. It was this successful collaboration that launched this franchise which was revived in 2020. Although they did not reunite in the third Bad Boys movie, they have been looking for a way to work together again, and that opportunity seems to have presented itself finally. However, fans are not very happy with this.
Will Smith Might Reunite with Michael Bay for Upcoming Netflix Action Movie Fast and Loose
Will Smith starred as the leading man in an action movie for the first time in 1995. The movie was Bad Boys, which marked Michael Bay’s feature directorial debut. The movie was a critical and commercial hit. Consequently, a sequel was made in 2003 and this one turned out to be a commercial success, but the critical reaction was negative.
Both Bay and Smith were catapulted to stardom following the release of their first collaboration together. While the former became one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars, the latter earned the reputation of the most commercially successful director in the industry, with the first five Transformers film series under his belt.
Deadline has recently reported that the Pearl Harbor director is in negotiation for directing the action film Fast & Loose, which Smith has been developing for quite some time. The success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die was all the encouragement needed for the under-development projects involving the Men in Black star.
Smith has previously worked with Netflix on the critically panned 2017 urban fantasy Bright. It was a rather expensive film for the streamer. Bay, on the other hand, has helmed the 2019 action thriller 6 Underground and the 2022 thriller Ambulance for Netflix.
Fans Are Not Very Happy With This Announcement
Fast & Loose follows the story of a man who wakes up in Tijuana and has no memories whatsoever. As he begins to learn about his past, he realizes that he was living a double life. So, he was both a crime lord and a CIA agent at the same time.
Now, if you are thinking that the premise sounds familiar, it is because it is similar to the movie Total Recall. Fans have not failed to point this out. Here is what some of them had to say:
The screenplay for Fast and Loose is written by Chris Bremner, Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Eric Pearson. Kelly McCormick and David Leitch for 87North will produce the pic with Smith. Other producers are also in negotiations. Barry Waldman, Noah Fogelson, and Robert Simonds will executive produce the film.
