“The acting is god awful”: Kraven the Hunter’s First Reactions Prove Aaron Taylor-Johnson Doesn’t Have Many Last Chances Left

Kraven the Hunter is the latest addition to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. It is the third entry into the franchise this year, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays the lead character. The movie, directed by J. C. Chandor, explores Kraven’s complicated relationship with his father and his journey to becoming the greatest hunter.
The Marvel character was considered for live-action film appearance several times before Sony ultimately decided to make a standalone movie. Now that the movie is finally out for first screenings, the response is not all that great, and it is hard to tell how many more times fans are ready to give Taylor-Johnson a chance to revive his reputation as an actor.
Concerning First Reactions to Kraven the Hunter Is Making Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Hollywood Future Look Morbid
Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, Kraven the Hunter is a Marvel comics character who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #15. He was an adversary to Spider-Man/Peter Parker and is part of the web-slinging superhero’s rogues’ gallery. Kraven, a founding member of the supervillain group the Sinister Six, also has a half-brother named Chameleon.
While the movie does not feature Spider-Man, it does star Fred Hechinger in the role of Chameleon. Other cast members include Ariana DeBose, Alessandro Nivola, Russell Crowe and Christopher Abbott. The ensemble cast alone is exciting enough to draw fans to the theaters, but the first reactions might affect the movie’s chances to do well.
Most of the people who have had the chance to watch the film so far are of the opinion that it could have been better. Here is what some of them have to say:
The CGI and dialogues are allegedly quite bad, which ruins the experience of the movie as a whole even though Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s acting is not all that bad. According to these reviews, the action sequences do not sound too bad either.
Since the Godzilla actor leads the film, regardless of whether or not his acting is good, he has to bear the brunt if the film fails to do well. The audience needs more than just good acting when it comes to investing two hours or more in a film. So, perhaps Taylor-Johnson should try choosing better scripts moving forward.
J. C. Chandor Urged Fans to Give Kraven the Hunter a Chance
At this point, no Marvel comics fan or cinephile is unaware of the bad reputation the SSU has gained over the last few years with movies like Madame Web and Morbius. In fact, the way Sony has been ruining these Spider-Man related movies is rather mysterious considering it is one of the most beloved superheroes.
J. C. Chandor is also well aware of the resentment fans have towards the SSU. In an interview with ComicBook, he discussed how this affected his film, and urged fans to give it a chance.
Some of the fans out there, a lot of the fans, were upset with certain decisions and certain outcomes [of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe]. Then with other films, they’ve gone on to be tremendous successes. So, there’s been a mixed success rate. People have got to give us a chance and come out and support this film, and literally try to wash away some of the other stuff that’s happened. Give our film a chance.
Assuming fans have humored him and given the movie a chance, the first reviews do not imply that much has changed. This makes one wonder if Sony will ever learn from its mistakes, or if they will keep asking for a last chance only to disappoint people further.
Kraven the Hunter will be in theaters from December 13, 2024.
