Some new behind-the-scenes pictures from the set of The Batman show director Matt Reeves directing Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight. Ben Affleck was initially supposed to direct and write The Batman, starring his own DCEU version of Batman/Bruce Wayne but ultimately dropped out due to a lot of reasons. Matt Reeves (director War for the Planet of the Apes) was brought on for the reboot later, exploring the early years of Pattinson’s Caped Crusader.

Where is The Matt Reeves’ Batman-inspired from?

The Batman is inspired by the classic Batman comics like The Long Halloween and Year One and will see its character come into his own as the “World’s Greatest Detective” while going against the Riddler. The Riddler hasn’t made an appearance on the big screen since Batman Forever (1995) and from the looks of the trailer, Dano’s serial killer looks a lot darker than Jim Carrey’s version of the character. Dano and Pattinson have an impressive supporting cast, boasting the likes of Andy Serkis’ Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Jim Gordon, John Turturro will play Carmine Falcone, Zoë Kravitz will play the Catwoman, and Colin Farrell will appear as Penguin. Moreover, The Batman is also rumored to tease some other iconic villains like The Joker and Two-Face.

Two new Behind-the-scenes images, courtesy of Warner Bros. show Matt Reeves directing Pattinson on the set of the movie. A particular scene that the pair appear to be working on sees Pattinson’s Batman turning up to the crime scene of Riddler’s victim, which was featured heavily in the film’s first teaser. The other sees Batman surrounded by police in what looks like the station.

For now, there is ample pressure on Pattinson and Reeves to deliver the goods on the third live-action Batman in almost a decade. While many fans were quite skeptical of the former Twilight star turned Indie star’s ability to wear the iconic cape and cowl, and more importantly, fit in some big shoes, but The Batman’s trailers have come to silence many of the naysayers. Reeves’ grounded and gritty take on Gotham City and this Batman looks slightly reminiscent of the popular Christopher Nolan’s trilogy.

However, furthermore, Batman’s action sequences, cinematography, lighting, and background score feel like an actual Batman comic come to life.

The Batman is poised to explore a totally different side of the Wayne family, hinting that the Riddler not only knows Batman’s true identity as Bruce Wayne but also has some knowledge of his family’s involvement in the corruption in Gotham. This depiction of the city will set up Reeves’ trilogy, and the two future HBO Max spinoffs that will focus on the Penguin’s origins and Gotham Police Department. The Batman is truly one of the most anticipated movies of 2022, and thankfully, fans won’t have to wait much longer as it lads in theaters on March 4.
