The cinematic triumph, The Blind Side, by John Lee Hancock, which manifested the indomitable power of human kindness, followed the remarkable story of Michael Oher, a man who overcame immense odds to achieve his dream as a footballer.  Sandra Bullock’s portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy was a feat of art. It was a role that not only resonated with the audience but also won her an Academy Award for her exceptional enactment. Amid this cinematic glory, the dissonance between her profile and compensation and Oher’s twisted tale add complicity to this cinematic triumph.

In 2009, Bullock was cast as Leigh Anne Tuohy in John Lee Hancock’s tender saga, The Blind Side, which centered around  NFL star Michael Oher, a homeless teenager who overcomes hurdles to achieve success in football and education. Bullock’s character, Anne Tuohy, and her family adopt Michael and help him develop his talents. The movie was a commercial success, grossing $317 million, and  Bullock won the Academy Award for best actress. Despite winning the award and with an established profile, where she earns more money for her other movies, according to the New York Times, she was paid only $5 million for the movie. Even though she was paid less, the academy award was a breakthrough in her career.

Gravity was a significant film in Bullock’s career. She was able to showcase her veracity in acting and was able to carry the film largely on her own. The film made around $723 million in total box office and was a critical success that garnered seven Oscars, including a best actress nomination. According to Parade, the actress earned a salary of $20 million, opposite George Clooney, with production budget of approximately $100 million.

Michael Oher claims The Blind Side was taken in a false narrative

NFL star Michael Oher has recently come up with the allegation that the movie’s narrative about his life is built upon falsehoods. He claims that the Tuohy family has never adopted him. He filed a legal petition, claiming that he was not legally adopted but rather coerced into a conservatorship that kept millions of dollars from him.

In the lawsuit, Oher sought the money that he claimed to have received from The Blind Side and an injunction barring Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy from consummating in his name. Sean Tuohy and his wife denounced his claim and responded, “It’s upsetting to think we would make money off any of our children. But we’re going to love Michael at 37 just like we loved him at 16″.

According to the petition, the NFL player received no compensation for the movie, while the Tuohys are said to have received $225,000 plus 2,5% of all future declared net proceeds because they are said to have negotiated the film’s deal through an agency.
