The Boys: Here’s Why Jeffrey Dean Morgan Isn’t In Season 3

The showrunner for the upcoming show, The Boys, Eric Kripke gave us all a confirmation that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will not make an appearance in the third season of the superhero series.
“[Morgan is] currently the lead, along with Lauren Cohan, on the Walking Dead spinoff,” Kipke told EW when asked about the possibility of Morgan appearing in The Boys in any capacity. “So, schedule-wise, I don’t know. We might still remain star-crossed, unfortunately, because I did ask. We had a role come up, and my first question was, ‘Well, is Jeffrey available?’”
Morgan and Kripke Have Worked On Supernatural Together
Morgan and Kripke had earlier worked on the CW series Supernatural, which was a creation of Kripke himself. Morgan appeared as John Winchester in the series, playing a father to series protagonists Dean and Sam, played by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki respectively. Kripke also served as the showrunner on the series until he left the role vacant after the end of the fifth season back in 2010. Supernatural went on for 10 more seasons before the series officially ended in 2020.
Jensen Ackles Is Also Set To Make His Debut in The Boys
Interestingly, Morgan isn’t really the first Supernatural alum to star in The Boys, thanks to Eric Kripke. Ackles will also be appearing in the forthcoming third season as Soldier Boy. “I don’t know exactly what was in the works for that, but I know that there were some preliminary conversations of how and what and when and why that just didn’t work out with Jeff’s schedule,” Ackles said. “He’s a busy man, and everybody wants him to come on their show.”
The aforementioned scheduling conflict faced by Morgan is due to his participation in various ultra-violent franchises. Alongside Cohan, who is yet another Supernatural veteran, will also star in the upcoming Isles of the Dead, which is a spinoff to The Walking Dead. “I enjoy that it’s two Supernatural alum in the lead of that show,” Kripke said regarding the upcoming series. “That makes me feel good for our creeping Supernatural world dominance.”
Kripke Wants Jeffrey Dean Morgan Back!
While Morgan will not be featuring in The Boys season 3, Kripke has earlier teased how much he’d love to have Morgan in the satire series. “At the top of my list is Jeffrey Dean Morgan,” Kripke said. “He’s a big fan of the show, an old friend from Supernatural. I would love to get him and Jensen [Ackles] into the same season.”
The third season of The Boys is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 3rd while Isles of the Dead is slated to premiere on AMC next year.
