Creator Eric Kripke has recently teased the fans by revealing the title of the first episode of the upcoming season. Now, this episode is expected to break some records, but to be able to occupy the top franchise spot, it has to be able to fulfill this one condition.

Ever since the show first launched, The Boys has been one of the most favorite shows worldwide and its ratings on various sites speak for itself. Considering the show takes a hit at the superhero genre, which is one of the most cherished genres of media, it is a little surprising that viewers love watching the tearing down of the supes, so to speak.

Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the show completed its four-season run earlier this year, and the production of the fifth seems to have begun. Recently, showrunner Eric Kripke shared the first page of the premiere episode’s script.

The caption “One. Last. Ride.” is obviously pointing to the fact that this will be the last premiere episode for the show. The episode, written by Paul Grellong, is titled Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite and is expected to meet the heightened episodes of fans, but to be able to top what has been done so far it will have to earn an IMDb rating that is higher than Herogasm, the sixth episode from the third season.

The aforementioned episode has a rating of 9.6 on IMDb at the moment. So, if Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite is intended to become the occupier of the top spot in the franchise, it will have to top that rating. As of now, it is hard to tell what exactly is going to happen in the upcoming premiere episode, because considering the adult theme of the series, dynamite could also be something else entirely.

As far as TV shows are concerned, there have been ones that have run for more than 10 seasons and there have also been which have ended after a three-season run. While audience reception is one major factor when it comes to the continuation of a show, the creator’s vision for it also plays a huge role.

In The Boys‘ case, fans would probably never let go of it if they could, but creator Eric Kripke has always wanted it to have 5 seasons. He told TheWrap:

I like five seasons. People have been asking me why that number and I think honestly as a TV writer I was trained on five acts and so it just makes sense to me to stretch out for that long. It gives you enough time to delve into the characters but it’s also not so long that it wears out its welcome.

In fact, Kripke had also originally planned to end the horror TV show Supernatural with only five seasons with the episode Swan Song. However, the show had become very popular and he had handed over the reins to Sera Gamble, so it ultimately ended up running for 15 seasons.

The Boys is available for streaming on Prime Video.
