‘The Dark Crystal’ Prequel Is Set For Release By Netflix

In recent times, a lot of reboots and revivals have come into our ears. Ranging from Charmed to Magnum P.I, there have been a lot of these. Also most of them have also been put to series. Joining this brigde is the Netflix revival of Jim Henson’s cult classic The Dark Crystal. The streaming platform has put the title of the 10 episode The Dark Crystal prequel series as The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Along with this, it has also released a batch of new photos which show us our best look yet of the return to Thra.

How Did The Dark Crystal Revival Come To Be?

Fans have been clamoring for a new installment to The Dark Crystal ever since the original film released over three decades ago. But after Henson’s passing and many development issues with plans for a sequel, the property was put on the back burner for years. Director Louis Leterrier, who had previously helmed The Incredible Hulk and Now You See Me, signed on with Netflix to bring the prequel series to life. So now fans will get to enjoy their fantasy epic but with updated technology while still using classic puppetry techniques which made the original such a classic. The synopsis says:

“Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie and realized using classic pupeptry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skesis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.”

When Will The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance Release?

The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance will premiere on Netflix on August 30th and take viewers back to the imaginative world which Henson created in the original film from 1982. There are new photos which have been released of new characters Rian, Deet and Brea who are voiced by Aaron Egerton, Anya Taylor and Nathalie Emmanuel respectively. All the ten episodes are said to run an hour each. You can check out the new pictures below
