The Demi Moore Era Is Upon Us: After ‘The Substance’, Golden Globe Winner Is Reportedly Eyed for Disney’s Live-Action Tangled Movie
- Demi Moore's success with The Substance has landed her on the radars of major filmmakers.
- Moore is reportedly being considered for a major role in the live-action Tangled movie.
- The live action adaptation of Tangled does not have any major updates about the casting.
It is officially Demi Moore’s world, and we are just living in it. Once one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, she became the highest paid actress in the industry in 1995 when she starred in the movie, Striptease. The movie, seemingly ahead of its time, did not do too well at the box office and her reputation took a huge hit which led to a career downturn.
In the three decades since then, although she might have reduced the number of roles she does, she never stopped working. However, none of that work managed to get her the recognition she deserved. Thankfully, that changed last year when she starred in the body horror film, The Substance. Her performance in the movie earned her a Golden Globe award earlier this month. These days, she is allegedly in the run for a role in the live-action Tangled film.
Demi Moore’s next big role might be in the live-action Rapunzel film
Demi Moore started out as a songwriter in the entertainment industry and branched out as a model by 1981. That same year, she also made her film debut. For years, she was only considered good for coming-of-age movies which was something she noticed and was disappointed about.
Luckily, that changed when she starred in the 1986 romantic dramedy About Last Night…. She began landing better roles and even got the chance to star as a solo actress in The Seventh Sign. Her most commercially successful film to this day remains Ghost, a supernatural romantic melodrama released in 1990. The Substance‘s success has put her right back on the charts.
Lately, Disney has been on a mission to adapt popular animated films into live action. The next movie in line is reportedly the Tangled adaptation, according to Deadline. One of the key characters in the story is the antagonist, Mother Gothel. Recently, the X account MyTimeToShineHello claimed that Moore is in the talks for the role.
While most fans are onboard with the idea of the Landman actress playing Mother Gothel, there are also some who are not. With her dark hair and alluring beauty, Moore would certainly shine through in the role. In fact, it would be ironic if she landed the role. Her character in The Substance tried a product from the black market in her desperation to achieve the kind of beauty one has in their youth.
Similarly, Mother Gothel had trapped Rapunzel in a tower and posed as her mother so that she could exploit the princess’ powers to live forever and remain perpetually young and beautiful. It has to be noted that fans have previously rooted for Kathryn Hahn’s casting as the Disney villainess.
Everything we know about the Tangled live-action film so far
According to Deadline, the live-action adaptation of the Oscar-nominated animated Tangled film will be directed by Michael Gracey. He is best known for directing the biographical musical dramas The Greatest Showman and Better Man (Robin Williams’ biographical film).
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson reportedly penned the most recent draft of the film’s script. She is widely known as the scribe of the films like Thor: Love & Thunder, Do Revenge and most recently, the upcoming reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Further, the film will be produced by Kristin Burr who will be doing it under the Burr! Productions label along with Emmy-winning producer Lucy Kitada (The Baby-Sitters Club). Although there has been no confirmed news regarding the casting, fans have their own ideas for the characters. Every now and then, they get hyped up about one character or another.
