The horror genre got one of its best additions in 2013 when James Wan began The Conjuring franchise. Since then, it has produced two direct sequels and many spin-offs like the Annabelle trilogy and The Nun

The fourth installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, is going to be the final chapter of the main series. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be returning as Ed and Lorraine Warren and will probably face their most sinister case ever. However, they are not alone this time, as Ben Hardy has also been added to the cast.

According to Deadline, Hardy and Mia Tomlinson will be the new faces in the upcoming film. In X-Men: Apocalypse Hardy portrayed Warren Worthington III, aka Angel, who was a mutant with wings. Initially, he was shown as a fighter in an underground mutant fight club.

However, when he got injured in one of the fights, he was left vulnerable until the antagonist gave him metal wings and turned him into a more lethal Archangel. Hardy also successfully managed to show the difference between the characters before and after getting transmuted.

Besides X-Men, his other notable performances came as Roger Taylor in Bohemian Rhapsody and in the recent Netflix movie Love at First Sight. Hardy’s career extends from British opera and action films to dramatic roles, which shows the versatility of the actor.

With all these, his addition definitely raises the expectations of fans. However, his character and role in Last Rites are not revealed yet. Only time will tell whether he will be Warrens’ ally or a skeptic who gets more than he bargained for.

Although the details for The Conjuring: Last Rites are still a mystery, many speculations have already started circulating among fans. Michael Chaves, who directed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun II, is returning to direct this upcoming movie, which promises more scares and suspense.

The earlier movies have been about infamous real-life stories like the Perron family case and the Enfield poltergeist. Many expect that Last Rites will also be about another real-life case, although which one is yet to be seen.

The film might also show the passage of Warrens’ legacy to the newer generation of demonologists. Their daughter Judy Warren might play an important role if it happens. There might also be another possibility of the return of the demonic nun Valak.

A final showdown between the Warrens and Valak will be an epic way to conclude their story. According to Screen Daily, the production has already begun in the UK. However, fans will have to wait for some more time to see whether the Warrens will survive their last supernatural battle or not.

The Conjuring: Last Rites is scheduled to be released in theaters in September 2025.

The Conjuring series is available to stream on Max.
