“The industry owes Nicki an Apology”: Grammy’s Humiliating Blunder With Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice Sparks Wild Conspiracy Theories
In an embarrassing blunder Sunday, the Recording Academy’s Grammys Twitter account falsely claimed Nicki Minaj had won her first Grammy before deleting the erroneous tweet minutes later. The flub comes amidst ongoing accusations that the Grammys snubed and “sabotaged” Minaj. But will this humiliating mistake of making fake claims of a Minaj victory finally lead to a real one? Or just more plots to deny the rap queen her rightful seat at the table?
What Tweet Did the Grammys Post and Delete About Nicki Minaj?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, during the Grammys premiere ceremony Sunday, where most awards are handed out, the Recording Academy’s official Twitter posted that Minaj and Ice Spice had won Best Rap Song for Barbie World. But that was incorrect – the real winner was Killer Mike’s Scientists & Engineers.
The tweet was soon deleted, but not before fans captured screenshots questioning the Academy’s latest Nicki Minaj mishap. The rapper has been nominated 12 times without a win.
Stans reacted strongly to the Grammys announcing a historic first win for Minaj, then retracting it minutes later. Fans argued it proved their conspiracy theories that the industry has continually plotted against Minaj being properly recognized. Here are a few fan reactions:
the industry owes Nicki minaj an apology. pic.twitter.com/Cy1GsmSr5R

This is so disrespectful… honestly. The way she gets treated in this industry, insane.

I’m literally in tears seeing the disrespect

While some other fans said, it wasn’t that bad of an idea to not give Minaj a Grammy :
SHE DID NOT DESERVE THE WIN

Apology for what exactly.

The hashtag “#FreeNicki” soon trended with demands that the Academy apologize and give her long overdue credit.
Does Nicki Minaj Have a Beef With the Grammys?
Minaj has previously suggested the Grammys deliberately disadvantage her nominations and categories. When Super Freaky Girl was moved from rap to pop last year, she called it “done to decrease my chances of winning awards.”
In 2020, Minaj also called out the Grammys for not awarding her Best New Artist in 2012 despite chart dominance. So this latest blunder, announcing a Minaj win then rescinding it, only fuels accusations that the Grammys disrespect her legacy.
Along with the Barbie World rap song nod, Minaj is up for three other Grammys Sunday night: Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Karma with Taylor Swift, Song Written for Visual Media for Barbie World Best New Artist for Duo with Ice Spice. After the awkward rap song mix-up, will Minaj finally get her Grammy due in one of those other categories?
Another year of Grammy nominations, another controversy for Nicki Minaj with the Recording Academy. When the org tweeted Sunday that Minaj had won her first gramophone, only to delete it minutes later, it reinforced beliefs that the Grammys deliberately undermined her career accomplishments.
This latest blunder comes after Nicki accused them of moving Super Freaky Girl to pop over rap to limit her chances. In 2020, she called out their snub for Best New Artist when she was clearly the breakout star.

So this retracted tweet has the Barbz demanding the Grammys #FreeNicki from alleged sabotage plots. Over a decade into her snubbed career, it’s past time she gets her flowers.
