The Miz on Karl Urban Bagging Johnny Cage Role Despite Mortal Kombat 2 Fan Campaign: “Dude, I want this”
Popular wrestler and actor, Michael Mizanin, popularly known as The Miz, has been a part of the Hollywood reality television industry since 2001 when he participated in The Real World: Back to New York. Since then, he has appeared as a presenter or a participant in a plethora of reality shows such as Battle of the Reality Network Stars, Diva Search, and Fear Factor.
The Miz signed up with WWE in 2004 and has won several national as well as international championships over the past years. He has been facing the camera for years now so naturally when he heard that the Mortal Kombat 2 movie was looking for someone to play Johnny Cage, he volunteered whole-heartedly.

The Miz Was Looking Forward to Playing Johnny Cage
When the possibility of the beloved character Johnny Cage being in the latest Mortal Kombat movie was teased, it didn’t take long for fan castings to begin. The one fan casting that really took off was The Miz which was logical given how suitable he would be for the role of the actor-turned-warrior.
During an interview, The Miz revealed that he loved the Mortal Kombat movie that was released in 2021 as it refreshed his childhood memories. He also said that he has always loved the character of Johnny Cage. So, when fans nominated his name for the character, he immediately jumped up to grab the chance.
I remember calling my agent and going, ‘Dude, I want this. I don’t know what I have to do. Call whoever you have to call. I want this bad.’ And then I’ll even say, I even put a campaign. And then I’ll even say, I even put a campaign. I went out on every interview and every time someone asked me about this question, I would say, ‘I want to be Johnny Cage. I want to be Johnny Cage.
Besides having a strong career in wrestling, The Miz is seen on the big screen once in a while. He starred in the reality TV series Miz and Mrs. alongside his wife, Marysse Oullet. He has also played a couple of roles in WWE studios films like The Marine franchise, Christmas Bounty, and Santa’s Little Helper. So, it seems fair that the fans wanted to see him as Johnny Cage.
The Miz Has a Mature Response to Losing the Role
Much to the surprise of the fans, it was recently revealed that the actor cum martial artist, Johnny Cage, will be played by Karl Urban in Mortal Kombat 2. As excited and desperate The Miz was about playing Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2, his reaction to losing it to Karl Urban has been very mature and calm even though he is disappointed about it.
And people were like, ‘Are you mad? Are you angry?’ And it’s like, I never get mad or angry when someone else gets a part that I want. I am fully supportive of a person getting… I imagine they’re going to work as hard as I will…
Karl Urban is a great actor from New Zealand who has starred in some very high-profile movies such as the second and third installments of The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek reboot film series and Amazon superhero series, The Boys. The Miz has watched The Boys and so, he is excited about seeing what Urban does to the role.
