“The most successful flirt I’ve ever met”: Peter Dinklage’s “superflirtatious” Charisma Even Left ‘Game of Thrones’ Creator’s Wife Awe-Struck
- Peter Dinklage's breakthrough in Hollywood came after years of struggle.
- Dinklage even managed to charm Game of Thrones creator's wife.
- The Station Agent actor was the only option for the role of Tyrion Lannister.
Peter Dinklage is one of the most talented actors of his generation and has fought against all odds to ensure he gets all the attention for all the right reasons. Although he dislikes being treated differently from others, he is treated that way precisely because of how much he stands out and it certainly has nothing to do with his height.
Instead, it is the fact that he has played some of the most popular characters to date and has the best comebacks to people who are trying to pry in on some information he clearly does not want to give away. Simply put, his charisma draws attention toward him. So much so that even Game of Thrones creator David Benioff’s wife could not resist it.
Peter Dinklage even impressed David Benioff’s wife with his charismatic nature
Peter Dinklage‘s dwarfism largely sets him apart from other actors. Usually, people with this condition are given a certain type of role, but Dinklage refused to play stereotypical roles. This resulted in him facing some difficulty with getting roles that he would be actually interested in and not just doing them for the sake of it.
Although he embarked on his professional acting journey in 1995, he did not make his breakthrough until 2003 with the movie The Station Agent. Things did not get better immediately, but eventually, they did work out in his favor, thanks to his resilience. In 2011, he began playing Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones. His performance as Tyrion catapulted him to international attention.
The Station Agent‘s success has earned him the reputation of a heartthrob. His co-star Lena Headey weighed in on his effortlessly flirtatious nature in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Pete is superflirtatious, the most successful flirt I’ve ever met. We literally walk down the street and people are like, ‘Oh, hi, Pete!’ And I’m like, ‘When did you meet them? What have you been doing?’
Even Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff’s wife could not resist Dinkalge’s charm as Benioff recalled a dinner party where he had met the Find Me Guilty actor.
I looked around the table and realized that every woman there, including my wife, was hanging on his every word, enthralled.
Dinklage’s wife Erica Schmidt is also well aware of the effect her husband has on other women. She stated how the actor is every nice thing a man could be and the rest of the world just has to catch up, and she is absolutely right.
Peter Dinklage was the first and only option for the role of Tyrion Lannister
If Dinklage is sharp, Tyrion is sharper. Even the actor admits this. Tyrion is the kind of character that, much like Dinklage himself, does not let his dwarfism become a hindrance to his progress. Instead of wearing it like a scar, he wears it like armor.
In the same interview, Game of Thrones novel series writer George R.R. Martin and showrunner David Benioff revealed how Dinklage was the only option for the role of Tyrion. Martin said: “If he hadn’t accepted the part, oh, boy. I don’t know what we would have done.” Benioff weighed in on this, saying:
When I read George’s books, I decided Tyrion Lannister was one of the great characters in literature. Not just fantasy literature – literature! A brilliant, caustic, horny, drunken, self-flagellating mess of a man. And there was only one choice to play him.
It wasn’t Dinklage who was lucky to land the role in the hit HBO show; it was the viewers and creators who were fortunate that he chose to accept it. To this day, Tyrion is one of the most revered characters in the show.
