I was 17 years old when we made this, and so I hadn’t met as many people yet in my life. And so I knew Gary Marshall was really special, and I knew Julie Andrews was really special. They are the two most magical people I’ve ever met. This was the film that changed my life. Like, it’s so weird to watch it. I haven’t seen this movie in maybe 20 years, and I’m a little bit speechless with this.

Fans have always hoped that the actress would someday return as Thermopolis, and it seems like the prayers have finally been answered as Anne Hathaway confirms The Princess Diaries 3. She shared her excitement by sharing a video reciting the iconic quote from the movie ‘Shut Up’, along with sharing the announcement from Variety.

The movie is going to be directed by Adele Lim, who shared in a statement,

One thing that fans have also been curious about is how much Hathaway earned for her role in The Princess Diaries as a 17-year-old. According to Cosmopolitan, Hathaway earned about $400,000 as Mia Thermopolis compared to what she earned for The Devil Wears Prada, which is $1 million. The actress is regarded as one of the most talented actresses in the industry who understands her characters in depth and would simply make the audience fall in love with her and her character in an instant.

In an interview with V Magazine, the actress shared when asked about the third installment that they are in a good place. Back in 2023, the actress, during her interview with People, mentioned that it’s very exciting to watch people excited about the possibility of a third movie but noted that it’s a process that requires patience.

In her Vanity Fair interview, the actress recalled a memorable lesson that she learned from her co-star and actress Julie Andrews. She said,

Hathaway noted that Andrews would make time at the end of each day after filming to sign autographs for fans. As much as Hathaway is fond of Andrews, the veteran actress is equally fond of her on-screen granddaughter, as she shared in an interview with Vanity Fair.

Later in my career, I made two films, Princess Diaries 1 and Princess Diaries 2, and this lovely young, talented actress starred in both of them, Anne Hathaway. It was clear from the very first day of shooting that she was going to be a star. She was incredibly talented; her instincts were so true; she was very beautiful and just a lovely human being.

Andrew continued that it was great fun for her to watch Hathaway grow and learn, adding that she thinks she was kind of a mother to her. The actress mentioned that they share a great relationship. Chris Pine also starred in the second installment and has also shared that the movie has been a very important part of his life and he will forever be thankful for that.

The cast for the third installment has not been announced, but as Hathaway said, patience is the key.
