The relationship between Jack and Rose is one of the most iconic depicted in film, with Jack’s creative expression playing an important role. Nonetheless, several intriguing behind-the-scenes interviews have shown that Cameron was the one with creative aptitude all along. Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jack Dawson, is a destitute aspiring artist who only secured a ticket on the Titanic by winning a poker game. After meeting Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), the two get close and eventually start a secret romance. Jack’s painting abilities contribute to his attractiveness as he frequently brings about his notebook and invites Rose to browse through it, displaying his often personal sketches. The scene in Titanic where Rose requests Jack to “draw me like one of your French girls” while wearing nothing but a necklace is perhaps the most iconic and most referenced. As Jack paints a nude Rose, it’s a really romantic scenario. But, as the camera pans down to see Jack’s sketching hand, there’s something odd that most people won’t notice.
