The Wait for Rihanna’s New Music Won’t Be a Long One and It’s All Thanks to One Animated Movie by ‘Puss in Boots’ Director
Rihanna is one of those music icons that fans can’t seem to get enough of, and her not releasing a new album since 2016 has made music lovers increasingly concerned about what she is planning to do. The past few years have brought about some great changes in her life, the most important of all is probably her becoming a mother of two so it seems understandable that she is taking some time for herself.
That said, the Umbrella singer has not completely distanced herself from music as she has released some great singles including the Oscar-nominated song Lift Me Up from 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Although she is not going to release a new album anytime soon, fans don’t have to wait for too long for new music from her due to her involvement with The Smurfs Movie.
Fans Are About to Get Lucky as The Smurfs Movie Will Feature New Music from Rihanna
Rihanna began gaining recognition with the release of her first two studio albums and the third album successfully established her as a pop icon due to the incorporation of dance-pop elements. So far, the singer has released eight studio albums, with the last of them Anti, having been released in 2016.
Fans have been eagerly waiting for the Barbadian singer to release a new album for quite some time. While the wait for that doesn’t seem to be getting over just yet, they might find some solace in the fact that the Grammy-winning artist has not only voiced the character Smurfette in The Smurfs Movie but also written, produced, and sung new original songs, which capture the essence of the movie (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The new movie, directed by Puss in Boots filmmaker Chris Miller, is based on the characters and work of artist Peyo. Besides Rihanna, the voice cast also includes Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Daniel Levy, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Xolo Maridueña, and Kurt Russell.
Speaking about the Rude Boy singer’s contribution to the movie during Paramount’s presentation at ComicCon earlier this year, studio chief Brian Robbins described Rihanna as “the most legendary Smurfette ever.” Previously, Katy Perry and Demi Lovato have voiced the character in 2011’s The Smurfs and 2013’s Smurfs: The Lost Village, respectively.
Rihanna’s Ninth Studio Album is Under Development
Many fans freaked out after seeing pictures of the hitmaker strolling with A$AP Rocky in New York City wearing a t-shirt that read: “I’m Retired.” However, the truth could not be further from it as she has recently confirmed to Entertainment Tonight (ET) that the t-shirt had nothing to do with her musical endeavors.
During the launch of Fenty Hair at Nya Studios in Los Angeles, Rihanna gave ET a much-anticipated update on her ninth album.
I think that music, for me, is a new discovery. I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda put all that stuff aside and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio. I’m gonna start — give me a second!
She explained that she is starting over, but does not want to ignore the songs that she has already made. So, the album will be an amalgamation of what she already has and the new songs that she is going to make. That said, it is definitely going to take more than a second for her to release the album.
The Smurfs Movie is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025.
