‘They are always paving the way’: K-Pop Legends BTS Announced As Official World Expo 2030 Busan Ambassadors, Expected To Make K-Culture a Global Phenomenon
Bangtan Sonyeondan or BTS as its more popularly known as were officially announced as the ambassadors for the World Expo 2030 Busan bid earlier today. In a public event held in Seoul, South Korea, the seven-member band of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook came together for the first time since the announcement of their “hiatus” since BTS Festa last June.
BTS as Ambassadors for Busan World Expo 2030 Bid
The seven members were presented with memorandums, and spoke of their plans for the World Expo event; which they will be kickstarting off with Global Busan Concert in October this year. BTS have shared their excitement on the same since the initial announcement was made on this collaboration. The K-pop band though are no strangers to being ambassadors for such important events, as they are already serving as ambassadors for Seoul Tourism for the past 5 years, soon to be 6.
The World Expo 2030, which will be held in Busan Cosmopolitan city of South Korea, coincidentally is also the hometown for two of the band members – Jimin and Jungkook. Both members have been delighted to be part of such an important event for their hometown.
HYBE’s Chairman Bang Si-Hyuk and CEO Park Jiwon, and Chairman of Busan Metropolitan City Park Heong-joon prior signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Busan Metropolitan City Hall to advance Busan’s bid for the World Expo 2030. As ambassadors, BTS, along with holding the Global Busan Concert, will take part in activities to increase Busan’s chances to host the World Expo in 2030.
Solo Projects for Bangtan
Currently, all seven members have taken a break from their group activities, and are focusing on their solo careers. Member J-Hope recently released his first solo album “Jack in the Box” on the 15th of July, and all members (except Suga) were seen enjoying with the rapper at the album’s pre-release party the night before.
BTS also released an anthology album – “Proof” in June, with 3 new singles, for their 9th anniversary. The band which debuted back in June of 2013, is now one of the biggest name in the music industry, not just K-pop. The band has previously also spoken at the United Nations twice, and even went on to perform their hit single “Permission to Dance” in September of 2021.
