“They are not gonna leave money on the table”: Saw Director Lays Out the Only Condition For Franchise Making Saw 11
The American horror multimedia brand Saw, which was founded by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, is today regarded as one of the most successful horror franchises ever.
A fictional serial murderer named John ‘Jigsaw’ Kramer and copycat killers are the focus of the first film which debuted in 2004 but the makers introduced John Kramer’s character in depth in the following movie, and the franchise rapidly became a global pop culture phenomenon. Critics have generally given the franchise, which has made over $1 billion at the box office, mixed to poor reviews, but the creators have kept their position, indicating that they disagree with the characters from the first film. Recently, the movie’s director responded to reports regarding Saw 11. Let’s learn more.
Kevin Greutert hints Saw 11’s future depends upon the success of Saw X
During a conversation with The Direct, Saw X’s director Kevin Greutert was asked about the franchise’s eleventh installment after Saw X premiered in theatres on 29th September 2023. The director said,
“Well, you know, I know the people involved well, and they’re ordinary humans. And if this film makes a lot of money, they’re not gonna leave money on the table if there are future directions to go.”
In speaking with CBR, the director noted that if the recent released movie performs well at the box office, then maybe the makers will look into the direction of giving the eleventh part of the movie a green sign, but until then it’s hard to say about the eleventh installment of the movie. He said,
“There’s no obvious new direction to go after this film. But I think there probably will be more Saw movies, particularly if this one is successful.”
Producer Oren Koules via Dexerto shared; “We’re very superstitious. We don’t even start thinking about Saw 11 or the next movie until after the latest one is released. But I’d bet on it.”
Mark Burg also adds, “Saw X ends where I think the audience will want to know what happens, and there’s kind of a cliffhanger ending. And there’s a great scene at the end of the credits, so we hope people will stick around.”
Burg also noted that there are a couple of easter eggs, a couple of surprises in the movie for the audience to look out for before adding that if the movie works, there are actors from the past who have already called them wanting to know if they can be in the next movie since they are going back in time.

Kevin Greutert calls Saw X a standalone movie
In a conversation with CBR, the director noted that he truly believes that the recent released movie is a standalone movie since the first one, which premiered in 2004. He said,
“It’s not about knowing or remembering anything about the previous films. It’s a richer experience if you know about Saw, because otherwise you won’t necessarily know who Amanda is when she appears, but it’s very clear from the beginning what’s happening.”
He explained that the audience will surely find some surprise elements in the movie, but also pointed out that the movie deals with what’s in the past rather than setting up for the future installment.
He also shared with The Direct that he is hoping that the audience, however, wants to know what happens to the characters, as he stated,
“I mean, when you say, though, that this film leaves open threads, it doesn’t necessarily answer a lot of questions that are cliffhangers for the other episodes. But for this one, some characters live and we don’t necessarily see what happens to them after that.”
Greutert also added during the conversation that he is hoping that the audience would like to know what happens to the characters and maybe then they can work on another Saw which answers it because he loves these characters.
How has Saw X performed at the box office?
The most recent movie released on 29th September 2023 is a direct sequel to the first movie which premiered in 2004 and is a prequel to 2005’s Saw II. Directed and edited by Kevin Greutert, the tenth installment was written by Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg.
Actors Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith reprised their roles from the previous movies as John Kramer and Amanda Young and the plot of the movie revolves around how John Kramer travels to Mexico to get a medical procedure that he thought could cure him, only to find out that he had been scammed. As a result, he kidnaps them and subjects them to his trademark death traps.
The movie has received positive reviews from the audience and the critics and Tobin Bell’s performance has been highly praised, with them stating that the recent release could be the strongest entry since the franchise’s first movie in 2004.
