“They don’t want the film to be purely comedic”: MCU Seemingly Has Learnt Its Lesson From Thor 4 as They Reportedly Look For a New Writer For X-Men Reboot
The X-Men are finally coming home to Marvel as these mutants have already begun appearing in the MCU. Ms. Marvel on Disney+ revealed Kamala Khan as a mutant, and upcoming movies like Deadpool 3 will feature familiar faces from the Fox-era X-Men films. After years under Fox Studios, the characters will be making their official MCU debut with the upcoming film.
Besides the film, another X-Men movie is in the lineup. And, Marvel Studios is reportedly looking for someone to write their new X-Men movie. This news comes after the Writer’s Guild of America made a deal with studios and streaming services.
Marvel Studios Seeks Balance for X-Men Reboot Film
In 2023, Deadline reported that Marvel is eager to find a writer who could strike a balance between comedy and drama for the new X-Men movie. Now, Cosmic Marvel again reported the same on X, indicating that the process of searching for a writer is still going strong.
Marvel Studios is reportedly looking for a writer who can handle both comedy and drama for their upcoming ‘X-MEN’ reboot film.
It seems like they don’t want the film to be purely comedic.

This is different from MCU films like Thor: Love and Thunder, which leaned more towards comedy and received mixed reviews from critics. They felt (via Rotten Tomatoes) Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) focused too much on humor, which made it harder to connect with the emotional parts of the story.
Even though Taika Waititi‘s funny approach in Thor: Ragnarok (2017) was a hit, the humor in Love and Thunder didn’t work as well for many viewers. Thor 4’s jokes were seen as too much, which took away from the serious parts of the movie.
So, striking a perfect balance between humor and drama is super important for superhero movies with comedy. The X-Men movies are famous for mixing action, drama, and deep characters. For that, Marvel Studios wants to bring back that balance for the X-Men reboot.
Marvel Will Focus More on Female Characters in the X-Men Movie
The report also suggests that the new X-Men film will focus more on female mutants. This is a welcome change, as previous female-centered Marvel films like The Marvels haven’t performed as well as others. With a rich cast of female X-Men characters like Storm, Jean Grey, and Rogue, the franchise has a lot to offer.
This move could revitalize the franchise. On top of all that, the X-Men joining the MCU is huge for Marvel fans. With Deadpool & Wolverine set to hit theaters soon, and the X-Men reboot film in development, the future of the X-Men in the MCU is bright.
While Marvel is still searching for a writer for the X-Men reboot movie, a release date has not been announced yet. This shows they’re being careful to pick the perfect writer and creative team for this big project.
Deadpool & Wolverine is releasing on 26 July, 2024.
