Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated television mini-series, Daredevil: Born Again, is the second series centered on the Marvel Comics character Daredevil, portrayed by Charlie Cox. The actor had previously portrayed the character of Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, in Netflix’s Daredevil from 2015 to 2018.

The upcoming series is reportedly going to see Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, trying to put their rivalry and alter egos aside to help the people of NYC. Little did Murdock and Fisk know that their past was going to catch up to them. As fans wait for the series to premiere in 2025, Marvel executives clarify how different their mini-series is from the Netflix series.

Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum reveals Daredevil: Born Again has a ‘new direction’

During an appearance on the Official Marvel Podcast, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum noted that the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again TV miniseries starring Charlie Cox is similar in some way to X-Men’97. He clarified that it’s because, just like X-Men ’97, Daredevil: Born Again is also reviving something that fans loved. But it’s taking a new direction.

Continuing further about the new direction the show is going to go, Winderbaum said,

These characters have matured. The universe is different than it was. Things have changed. Society’s changed. Matt and Wilson have changed, and their characters are going to collide in ways we’ve never seen before. It’s no longer enough to try to murder each other. There’s a whole game of politics at play.

According to The Playlist, the politics at play mentioned during the podcast are reportedly set to be about Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk running for mayor of New York City. The act from Kingpin is going to rub Matt Murdock the wrong way. Netizens also mentioned that Marvel executives mentioning the politics at play could backfire, as it has been seen that politics removes the personal stakes for a hero and makes it tedious for the fans to continue to watch the series.

It was also noted that Daredevil on Netflix was not only met with positive comments from the audience and the critics but was also appreciated for its adherence to the source material and action sequences that were well thought out. The performances on the show were apt and portrayed the characters well, which impressed ardent comic book fans. Every character on the show had a unique arc, which kept the audience hooked.

Daredevil showcased a superhero who not only does hero stuff but also deals with real-life problems, including romantic relationships, friendship, his job as an attorney, and dealing with his religious beliefs. All these traits make Matt Murdock one of the favorites of the audience. One of the things that the audience appreciated about Daredevil was the portrayal of female characters; they weren’t just romantic love interests on the show. The show managed to give the female characters a strong storyline and delivered it beautifully.

Daredevil is nearly a perfect show, and if Daredevil: Born Again tends to include too much politics, it might just backfire.

Fans react to Daredevil: Born Again’s ‘new direction’

Ardent fans who have loved Daredevil were quick to react to Marvel Exec Brad Winderbaum sharing that the upcoming show will take a new direction, and hinted that it’s going to include politics. They took to their social media account to express their views, with one of the users writing, ‘We don’t need higher stakes; we need personal stakes’.

Daredevil Updates’ X account shared that the upcoming show is said to have its stakes ‘higher than ever before, and the stories they are going to showcase will be some of the best that have been put out by Marvel.

To this, a user replied, ‘This really sounds to me like they’re going to overcompensate to compete with the OG, and it might be bad.’ Another user mentioned that Kevin Fiege better not reveal Matt Murdock’s identity.

An X user mentioned that reading all the updates made them nervous. Another fan noted that every time Marvel has tried to handle politics, it has never gone the right way. Fans are excited but nervous because they do not wish to see their favorite character massacred by the creators.

Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled for a 2025 release. Daredevil is available to stream on Disney+.
