Fraser gave an emotional speech while accepting the award Sunday night. He thanked a lot of people which naturally included director Darren Aronofsky.
Brendan Fraser Gives Out Emotional Message While Accepting His First Oscar
After last year’s Oscars drama, this year the award ceremony went smoothly. One of the greatest highlights of the night was Brendan Fraser winning the Best Actor for The Whale (2022). Since 2003, Fraser had not been active in Hollywood.
But his recent comeback suggests his absence had nothing to do with a lack of talent or opportunities. He went through a lot of personal issues in the early 2000s and throughout the last decade. But through all that he has returned with one of the best performances among the many other. Last Sunday while receiving the Oscar award for best actor, he was visibly emotional as anyone would be in his position. He thanked people in his life and the director of the movie Darren Aronofsky for providing him with a “creative lifeline”. Furthermore, he also shared the appreciation felt saying,
“I started in this business 30 years ago and things didn’t come easily to me,”
And then Fraser went on to thank his cast member Hong Chau and credit his family including his wife whom he called his “best mate”.
Why Did Brendan Fraser Go out of the Spotlight For So Long?
When his career as a young actor in Hollywood started looking promising, out of nowhere Brendan Fraser exited Hollywood. Later it was revealed by the actor himself after more than a decade that he had been going through personal issues. And one of them included an allegation about s*xual harassment by the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Philip Berk. The George of the Jungle actor kept the issue down for a long time. According to him back in 2003, Berk had touched him inappropriately and in a non-consensual manner. The incident left a heavy scar on his mind. It took him a very long time to get over the trauma and to face the public.
