“This is a dream come true”: Aubrey Plaza Makes Epic Return to SNL After Being Fired as an Intern Before Discovering Acting Career
A very special moment in the life of Aubrey Plaza was marking the opening of the first Saturday Night Live show’s episode for 2023 as she hosted the show alongside musical guest Sam Smith on January 21. This was a proud moment for the actress-comedian as she finally secured the role she had always wanted and eventually made her hosting debut at SNL Season 48.
After being popular while playing April Ludgate on Parks & Recreation from 2009-2015, serving as an NBC page at the satirical sitcom 30 Rock, as well as the role of Harper in the sitcom-drama The White Lotus (since 2021), the actress made her way to the SNL stage. A surprise video appearance by the actual President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, occurred during Aubrey Plaza’s monologue. Her early career was challenging financially, and she had difficulty getting a good job, but her hard work and perseverance paid off in the end, and she achieved her dream opportunity.
Aubrey Plaza’s Return Debuting As A Host At Saturday Night Live Show
The White Lotus star Aubrey Plaza hosted her first guest, Sam Smith, at Saturday Night Live on January 21, which was her first time hosting the show. It was a fitting tribute to Plaza’s NBC Page roots when she offered viewers behind-the-scenes access to the event. There was also a special appearance from Amy Poehler, a former cast member of the TV show Parks and Recreation, and a video appearance by America’s President Joe Biden.
During an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress discussed her time as an intern on Saturday Night Live and how she even failed to make it through the auditions. From 2004 to 2005, Plaza interned at SNL and opened up about her experience.
Plaza recalled,
“I was an intern in the design department for the four set designers, whom I know you’re aware of. They (Talking about production designers) loved me. They loved me because I did not care about set design at all.”
She continued,
“They wanted an intern that had no interest in learning what they did because they were moody b*stards. And you know that’s true! I mean, I love them, but they are. Their office was labeled ‘The Moody Room.’ They were so grumpy.”
She added,
“I didn’t really talk to the cast because I was, you know, I was an intern. I was kind of stalking, lurking in the shadows. I studied like a sponge. I was just creepy. I was a creepy stalker. Now, I’m going to host it, so my master plan worked.”
In addition to her hosting debut at SNL, she has had several memorable experiences that she will never forget from her time on the show, such as all of the auditions she failed to make it through the show, what she revealed at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon show.
Fans Congratulate & Praise Aubrey Plaza For SNL Dream Break
There has been a lot of praise for Aubrey Plaza’s performance at the recent episode of Saturday Night Live, which was her first gig on the show. However, some fans have been dismayed that she did not perform up to her standards and think she was too nervous.
The part where Plaza appeared as a hotel employee in the hilarious sketch called The Black Lotus was the highlight of her SNL hosting debut this weekend, as the audience found that part most entertaining. She parodied the hit HBO series The White Lotus, in which she recently starred in season 2.

She's not funny, I've tried. But she thinks she's hilarious. As usual, Weekend Update never disappoints. Please let Jennifer Coolidge host.

everyone has their opinions I think you don't get her humor which is totally okay. I thought she was funny but I think this opening was just decent. It wasn't great but it was good for her.
