However, hot Glen summer seems to be coming to a tragic end as Glen Powell’s Twisters is set to meet its grim fate soon. The movie will be moved to digital platforms and competition with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine in the theatres might have something to do with it.

Glen Powell rose to international recognition with his portrayal of Hangman in Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick. He has been a trailblazer ever since as his next project was the sleeper-hit romantic comedy Anyone but You opposite Sydney Sweeney.

The movie was a critical and commercial success and had the internet clamoring over the on-screen couple’s chemistry to the point that everyone began rooting for them in real life. Much to fans’ disappointment, Powell and Sweeney just turned out to be great friends.

Powell’s chemistry with Daisy Edgar-Jones in the disaster film Twisters is just as good, if not better. The film itself has received positive reviews, but none of these things have been able to save it from being moved to digital platforms just after three weeks of its release.

According to When to Stream, the film is expected to be released on digital platforms on August 13. However, the final date might be subject to change as its U.S. theatrical distributor Universal Pictures has neither announced the news so far nor confirmed it.

It has to be noted that since its release on July 19, the movie has earned $245.5 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo). However, its run might have been affected by the release of the highly anticipated MCU movie Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the lead roles.

Twisters attracted a significant amount of attention and it was not just because of the amazing performances, but also because the film deliberately decided to omit any intimate scenes between the two lead stars.

The film is now receiving the increasingly common treatment of being moved to digital platforms shortly after its release, much to the chagrin of fans. Here is what some of them had to say on X:

Some fans have agreed that Deadpool & Wolverine‘s release date being so close to this movie’s has certainly hurt its chances to earn more. Even so, it has to be noted that this is an ongoing trend that is favoring digital platforms over cinemas.
