‘This is really weird and creepy’: Madonna Objectified MCU Star David Harbour, Made Him Perform Because She Found Him Hot
Actor David Harbour, who is well known for his role as Jim Hopper in Netflix’s original series, Stranger Things, once revealed that he was asked to audition for pop singer Madonna’s movie because she thought he was s*xy. The actor told Jimmy Kimmel about the story on his show. Back in 2011, he auditioned for the movie W.E. which was directed by Madonna. The singer reportedly found him “too s*xy” and wanted him to be a part of her movie. He revealed that a casting director told him he was only selected because they thought he was attractive for the role.
David Harbour auditioned for W.E.
Actor David Harbour recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and revealed that back in 2011, a casting director asked him to do a “top-secret reading of the movie” in a room at the St. Regis hotel, and stated that more information “would be revealed.” The actor recalled,
“I was like, ‘This is really weird and creepy,’ and he said, ‘You have a s*x scene in it, and they thought you were s*xy.’ All weekend I was literally thinking about Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese.”
The actor was told that this anonymous casting director saw him in Revolutionary Road (2008) and liked it. At the time, he was not that famous and he was glad that he got an opportunity like this.
The actor talked about working with Madonna
The actor further talked about working with the Queen of Pop, Madonna, who was directing the movie. The singer presented her first film as a director back in 2008 with Filth and Wisdom. The actor recalled,
“I walk into the room and there’s a bunch of other actors from New York there. Then Madonna, who is directing this movie, walks in, and the first thing that came to my mind was, ‘Wow, Madonna thinks I’m s*xy.'”
He said it was a “really nerve-wracking and exciting experience” for him as he is a huge fan of the singer. W.E. was released on 9th December 2011 and also features Abbie Cornish, Andrea Riseborough, Oscar Isaac, and James D’Arcy.
David Harbour later attended Madonna’s birthday party
Although the movie couldn’t perform that well at the box office, the actor said it was a great experience. He admitted that it was not a good movie but he had fun working with Madonna. He even attended her birthday party, “She came in, and she was in a beautiful emerald dress. And then the party started, she put on sweatpants and they played Madonna music. I danced with Madonna to Madonna’s music. That’s what I’m going to put on my tombstone,” the actor recalled.
