“This is what cancer can look like”: 52-Year-Old Shannen Doherty Confesses Her Fear Amid Battle With Cancer
The American actor Shannen Doherty is well known for portraying Brenda Walsh in the famous television drama Beverly Hills 90210 from 1990 to 1994. She has also been a part of movies like- Fortress, Heathers and Mallrats. She also starred in the TV show Charmed, Little House On The Prairie, Girls Just Want To Have Fun and Our House.

An avid animal rights activist and supporter, Shannen Doherty openly backed the Sea Sheperd Conservation Society. In March 2015, the Charmed actor was diagnosed with breast cancer, which had spread up to her lymph nodes. Recently, the actor in her early 50s posted a video on her social media handle and provided the recent developments on her diagnosis.
Shannen Doherty Opens Up On Her Battle With Cancer
Shannen Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. After undergoing a mastectomy, she went on to receive chemotherapy and radiation treatment. According to the announcement made by her, she was in a remission stage in 2017, but within three years she was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.
Recently, the actor posted a heart-wrenching post on her Instagram handle. Shannen Doherty was seen undergoing radiation treatment. The video clearly showed the existence of metastasis in her brain. She spoke about the struggles of living with stage 4 cancer and how she had always feared this. The caption mentioned-
January 12, 2023. On January 5th, my CT scan showed Mets in my brain. Yesterdays video was showing the process of getting fitted for the mask which you wear during radiation to your brain. January 12, the first round of radiation took place. My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life.”

Shannen Doherty even expressed her words of gratitude for the medical team that is handling her case. She added-“I am fortunate as I have great doctors like Dr Amin Mirahdi and the amazing techs at Cedar Sinai. But that fear…. The turmoil….. the timing of it all…. This is what cancer can look like.”
The comment section of the emotional post made by the actor was flooded with messages of love and support from Hollywood and her fans. Actor Selma Blair posted-
“This is a lot to take on, still again. And I am wishing for all the wise peace you have learned to find you in the terror moments. To know we are holding you. Love. All love.”
Hollywood personalities like Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kevin Smith praised the fighting spirit of the actor in the comment section.
Shannen Doherty On How Cancer Changed Her Marital Life
During an interview with the media outlet People, Shannen Doherty had spoken about her struggles with Cancer and how it went on to transform her marriage with her ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko. The 52-year-old actor was married to photographer Kurt Iswarienko in 2011. She stated- “Cancer solidified us. Kurt and I have a much deeper appreciation for each other now.”
Reflecting back on her relationship with Kurt Iswarienko, the actor mentioned
“It’s not that our marriage wasn’t good before. But we were definitely going through some growing pains. We would lock horns on things, and instead of resolving it, we wouldn’t speak for a couple of days. For anybody to think that the only person altered by cancer is the person with cancer is incredibly wrong. Cancer alters the people in your life. And it’s shaped both of us. We look at life very differently now.”

However, the duo filed for divorce in April 2023 over ‘irreconcilable differences’ after being together for over a decade. According to a statement given by Shannen Doherty’s representative, Leslie Sloane, to the reputed media outlet People, “Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted. Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option.”
Shannen Doherty has been through a lot over the years since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. The Beverly Hills actor has documented the various stages of her treatment and diagnosis on social media to raise awareness and actively speak about dangerous diseases like cancer.
