“This is where I belong”: Ant-Man 3 Star Evangeline Lilly is Leaving Hollywood
Canadian actress Evangeline Lilly is widely known for her role as Hope in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The actress has appeared in numerous other projects over the years, but she has recently announced that she is no longer interested in continuing her career in Hollywood for now.
After entertaining millions of people in her career spanning over two decades, Lilly has now decided that she wants to bid farewell to the world of glitz and glamour. The actress took the time to write a post regarding her decision to step away from Hollywood, and fans have shown their full-fledged support for her.
Evangeline Lilly Has Decided to Retire from Hollywood
Evangeline Lilly‘s acting career began when she decided to contact the agency that had discovered her in British Colombia. She started her career with commercials and non-speaking roles in TV shows. Eventually, she landed her breakthrough role as the fugitive Kate Austen in the ABC sci-fi drama TV series Lost, which was aired for six seasons between 2004 and 2010.
While still on the show, Lilly starred in the movie The Hurt Locker. The movie not only impressed the critics but also received nominations in 9 categories at the Academy Awards. Although she turned down a role in X-Men stating that she was not interested in superhero movies, she later accepted the role of Hope van Dyne in Ant-Man. This role earned her worldwide recognition.
After all that she has achieved, Lilly is now ready to retire from Hollywood and she has recently announced it via an Instagram post. In the caption, she wrote:
Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment. I might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong.
The accompanying video is a combination of two clips. The year marked on the first clip is 2006 and the actress is seen saying saying that ten years from then, she would like to be retired, have a family, become a writer and doing humanitarian work. The next clip is a much older one of Maya Angelou answering a question in an interview, which The Hobbit actress has claimed perfectly articulates her feelings.
Evangeline Lilly Knew She Did Not Want to Work as an Actress All Her Life
Some people are destined to do great things in their life like fame and wealth. Lilly seems to be one of them, but she has now decided that she does not need any more of those things. In fact, she has known that acting is not going to be her end game for years.
Years ago, after she was done wrapping up the series Lost, she appeared for an interview with Vulture. During the interview, she claimed that acting was just a job for her.
I think of it as a job; that’s what it is, it’s a job. It’s a job that’s all encompassing, unfortunately. It’s a job that has way too much effect on your life, which is one of the reasons why it doesn’t interest me. Because I’m interested in having a job, I’m not interested in having an entire lifestyle governed by what I do for a paycheck.
Even back then, she said that she was going to take a break from acting because it was just a day-job for her, and not something that she was pursuing with some kind of intent.
