The franchise is widely known for its xenomorphic creatures that hunt the inhabitants of a spaceship or other such space vessels. They are either shown through CGI or practical effects and it goes without saying that the latter is more popular among viewers. Considering this, it is no less than a treat for fans to get to see the behind-the-scenes pictures of one of the xenomorphs on set.

The existence of the extraterrestrial lifeform, commonly referred to as Alien, dates all the way back to 1979 when Ridley Scott directed the first movie for the franchise. It starred Sigourney Weaver as the lead character Ripley, who fought with these creatures for survival. It was a critical and commercial success and spawned an entire franchise.

A featurette of Alien: Romulus takes fans behind the scenes to give an insight into the practical effects including the xenomorph suit and the well-detailed sets. FilMonger on YouTube uploaded the 12-minute video recently, and it is everything that fans could ask for.

In the video, Cailee Spaeny, who plays a lead role in the film, said:

These sets really help with the acting, because you’re really just reacting to what’s in front of you. And they’re absolutely incredible and massive and so immersive. So, every single set I’ve been on is impressive. It’s such a gift to be filming on sets like this and also to be filming chronologically. It does a lot of the work for you.

The video, specifically the xenomorph suit, has attracted a lot of positive attention towards the movie. Here is what some of them had to say:

Judging by these positive reactions and the general craze for the franchise, the film looks well on its way to having a blast at the box office. Not to mention the critical appreciation that it will get, thanks to such realistic effects.

Alien: Romulus Could Reverse the Curse That Ridley Scott Brought Upon the Franchise

Scott directed the Alien movies subtitled Prometheus and Covenant, released in 2012 and 2017 respectively. While the first of these has a 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the latter saw a huge drop in critics’ and audience responses, with scores of 65% and 55%, on the site.

The recovery was going to be tough, and luckily, Romulus appeared to be doing well based on the initial reactions. The film will follow a group of young space colonizers who will face the most terrifying life form in the universe while scavenging a space station.

Alien: Romulus is set to hit the theatres on August 16.
