“This movie is straight up gonna be a Jumanji clone”: Fans Hate the Latest Update on Jack Black’s Steve in Minecraft Live Action
- Nacho Libre star Jack Black appears as Steve in the upcoming A Minecraft movie.
- Black's picture as young Steve has fans upset as they notice that it is looking like the Jumanji movies.
- Director Richard Hess has explained the reasoning behind the movie's title.
The Jumanji film franchise, originally adapted from a children’s picture book, has been abundantly successful when it comes to live-action movies. Jack Black was in the star cast of the two indirect sequels to the 1995 movie which starred Robin Williams in the lead role. Now, Black is a member of the cast of the upcoming Minecraft live-action movie.
The production of the film is in full swing these days. Those involved often give an insight into what to expect from the movie and also a glimpse at the actors who are starring in the film. Recently, a picture of Black made its way on the internet and fans are not quite impressed with what it could possibly mean.
Fans Are Convinced That the New Picture of Jack Black is Confirming Their Worst Suspicions
With three Golden Globe Award nominations and many other such accolades, Jack Black is one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood. He has starred in some of the best movies, including the musical film High Fidelity and the Kung Fu Panda franchise. He is also a member of the musical band Tenacious D.
Mojang Studios’ survival and sandbox video game, Minecraft, was in talks of getting adapted for over a decade and it’s finally happening now. A teaser trailer was released for the same a few weeks ago and fans were far from impressed with what they saw.
They are reacting similarly to a picture of the Nacho Libre star who is playing the role of Steve in A Minecraft Movie. Some have even claimed that it is looking like the Jumanji films.
Black has appeared in screen adaptations of books and games before. Goosebumps and The Super Mario Bros. movie are two of those. He played the role of Bethany Walker in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its sequel Jumanji: The Next Level. These movies showed him as the adult avatar of a high school girl who gets trapped in a game.
Director Jared Hess on Why the Movie is Titled This Way
Gentlemen Bronchos director Jared Hess has put on the director’s hat for this movie. With a script from Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, the film also stars Jason Momoa, Jennifer Coolidge, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen.
In a recent video that gives an insight into the movie (via Minecraft on YouTube), Hess revealed why the movie is named the way it is. He said:
Every Minecrafter, every player, they bring their own original story to what they’re doing. It’s very intentional that this movie is called A Minecraft Movie as opposed to ‘The Minecraft Movie.
He also asserted that Momoa’s Henry is the archetype of a modder. So, Henry will be the character who comes into the Minecraft world after making changes in the “vanilla” game.
A Minecraft Movie is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2025.
