“This was a show about color and wardrobe”: The Big Bang Theory Actor Reveals the Strange Rule That Everyone Had To Follow on Set
One of the most well-known sitcoms is still The Big Bang Theory, an American television comedy series developed by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, starring Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Kaley Cuoco, and others. The show has amassed a devoted following that spans the globe, and its viewers enjoy returning time and again to watch and rewatch it.
The Big Bang Theory, which was taped in front of a live audience and ran for 12 seasons between 2007 and 2019, debuted to mixed reviews. However, as the show’s audience matured, they came to understand the kind of material the creators wanted to provide. In its eleventh season, it debuted at number one, and the performers received praise for their acting over the years.
The Big Bang Theory set had strict wardrobe rules for the actors
CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, starring Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Kaley Cuoco as the leads, with Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch later joining the cast, completing their group; ran from 2007 to 2019 and was applauded by a large section of the audience.
An extra who had been a part of the show has opened up about how it was for them to be on the sets of The Big Bang Theory along with having a strict wardrobe rule the cast members had to follow. An extra shared on Reddit, that they had picked up a couple of outfits from the wardrobe department thinking that in case what they had worn was not right they would have options, but later discovered a strict rule they had to follow;
“This show was different than any other show I’d worked on in the sense that it was predominantly just about what color top you were wearing. They almost didn’t care what it was (no logos or writing though) as long as the color didn’t conflict with what the cast was wearing. The wardrobe person would have a sheet and you’d come up and they’d look at you (if you were wearing a brown shirt) and say ‘…brown. No, Sheldon’s wearing brown. What else do you have?'”
The extra went on to explain that they soon understood that they should avoid red, green, or blue and should pick unique colors like orange and purple. They continued that sometimes they were told to wear certain jackets or sweaters if the episode had some changes to it just before they’d start filming.
“Hair and makeup never seemed to care about me too much. This was a show about color and wardrobe.”

The Big Bang Theory cast and crew HAD TO engage in flash dance
According to various reports, it was widely known that everyone who was working on the show at the time had to participate in flash dancing which lasted more than several minutes and was happening in front of a live audience. It was reported that the actress Kaley Cuoco, who played the character of Penny on the show, had choreographed a dance routine with the cast and crew for two weeks.
After looking at the response of the audience to their flash dance, the makers decided to make it a time-honored tradition. The scenes may not be necessary, but the flash dance seemed like a perfect way for the cast and crew to blow off some steam.
The extra shared that everyone on the show was friendly and glad to be a part of it and this definitely makes the fans happy to hear that the people they admire on-screen were grateful to be on the show.

“Kunal Nayyar was the most approachable and chill”: Extra on working with the cast
The extra who had shared their experience on Reddit had shared that Kunal Nayyar, who played astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali on the show, was the most approachable and chill person on the set. They wrote,
“I messed up a cross once which resulted in him walking into a chair to avoid me while filming and he was so cool about it. I apologized profusely and he was like “Dude, hi five. No worries.” So completely cool. He could’ve been a diva and I maybe wouldn’t have ever come back but he was so friendly.”
Interestingly, Amy and Bernadette, played by Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch, were promoted to the main cast in season four and they were regarded as the regulars from the fifth season, which also meant that they weren’t paid as much as the other characters on the show. After contracts were negotiated, the top-5 agreed to lower their salaries, so Bialik and Raunch’s earnings were raised to a more respectable $500k per episode.
