Timothée Chalamet’s 1 Oscars Achievement Brings Him Closer to Paralleling Leonardo DiCaprio’s Feat
- Timothée Chalamet seems to be living up to his reputation as the next Leonardo DiCaprio.
- Chalamet is quite closed to achieving the same Oscars feat as the Titanic star.
- The Dune star joked about his frustration regarding losing at major award shows.
Timothée Chalamet has often been referred to as the next Leonardo DiCaprio of Hollywood and a good look at their career trajectory suggests that it is, in fact, true. While DiCaprio is an established A-lister, Chalamet is well on his way to doing the same considering the hit after the hit he has been delivering for the past couple of years.
With his Victorian-era charm and top-notch acting skills, Chalamet first gained recognition for his performance in movies like Call Me by Your Name and Little Women. Then, he proceeded to star in the sci-fi blockbuster franchise, Dune. At this point in his career, he is quite close to one Oscars achievement that DiCaprio has.
Timothée Chalamet is very close to achieving the same Oscars feat as Leonardo DiCaprio
Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio began acting when they were very young, although they have a huge age gap. Just like Chalamet, DiCaprio had this Victorian-era look to him when he was younger, almost too good-looking for his own good considering he was almost rejected from What’s Eating Gilbert Grape because of them. Luckily, he managed to bag the role and it earned him his first Oscar nomination.
Over time, DiCaprio’s appearance transformed to reflect a more 21st-century style, and his acting became more polished. Chalamet is on the same journey although no one is quite that sure about that moustache he has grown for his new role in the upcoming biographical film, Marty Supreme.
That said, The Great Gatsby star has appeared in 11 movies that have been nominated in the Best Picture category at the Academy Awards. To name a few, Titanic, The Revenant, The Wolf of Wall Street, Don’t Look Up, and his most recent collaboration with Martin Scorsese, The Killers of the Flower Moon. He has also been nominated in the Best Actor category six times and won once.
Chalamet, on the other hand, has starred in 7 Best Picture-nominated movies so far. This includes two of Greta Gerwig’s movies he has appeared in, namely, Ladybird and Little Women, and also the two movies from the Dune franchise. It has to be noted that DiCaprio has starred in those many Best Picture nominees between 1998 and 2024, and the Bones and All star has achieved this feat in less time than that.
Timothée Chalamet humorously expressed his frustration about losing at major award shows
Recently, Timothée Chalamet took on double duty at NBC’s sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live(SNL) both hosting and performing as the musical guest for the January 25 episode. He was promoting his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown at the show. This movie has also been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar this year.
During his monologue on SNL, he expressed frustration about consistently losing major award nominations, saying:
It’s an enormous honor going to these award shows. It’s such a great experience. But I just keep losing. And each time, it gets harder to pretend it doesn’t sting.
Adding insult to injury, a clip of his disappointed reactions to losing at previous Golden Globes and Academy Awards ceremonies was shown. He lost his Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor this year to Sebastian Stan.
The Wonka star has been nominated in the Best Actor category at the Academy Awards too for his performance in A Complete Unknown. He is competing against Adrien Brody, Sebastian Stan, Ralph Fiennes, and Colman Domingo this time so the outcome is quite unpredictable.
