Saoirse Ronan is one of those rare talents in recent times who has managed to maintain a mainstream audience while relying mostly on indie films. But after watching her co-star Timothée Chalamet’s career, it looks like the actress is looking to bring variety to her filmography.

Saoirse Ronan first appeared in I Could Never Be Your Woman in 2007, and in the same year, she also appeared in Atonement, for which she was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category. Since then, she has been nominated multiple times for Oscars, SAG Awards, and almost every other major award.

Ronan has earned kind of a reputation for being one of the best actors of the upcoming generation, and she has just turned 30. All these happened in such a short time thanks to her early career and also her inclination towards indie films and less commercial and mainstream movies.

Being a part of indie films gives more creative control and allows the actors to relate more on a personal level. It also gets riskier because it depends on actors to pull off the scenes and story on their acting skills. Ronan has built her career focusing mostly on quality over quantity, and her movies like Brooklyn, Lady Bird, and Little Women are often about complex emotional and social issues.

However, in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actress revealed that, after being a part of heavy scripts and character-driven stories, she wants to do more commercial and mainstream films in the future.

I don’t know if this sounds superficial to say, but I would love to do more big commercial stuff because I think I’ve done a lot of indies, and I love doing them, but it was kind of lovely to go onto something like Blitz where you didn’t have to worry about time or money and the biggest thing is that you know the movie’s going to be seen.

Seems like Ronan wants to follow her Lady Bird co-star Timothée Chalamet‘s career graph. Chalamet quickly established himself as a serious actor with critically acclaimed films like Call Me by Your Name and Beautiful Boy. However, lately, the actor is mixing it up with more commercial and big-budget films like Dune and Wonka.

Mainstream roles definitely appeal to a wider audience and increase the popularity of the actors. And besides Chalamet, Zendaya is someone who has understood this quite successfully, which made her one of the highest-paid actresses of the new generation.

Zendaya started her career as a Disney Channel star on Shake It Up and quickly became a household name among younger audiences. She has spent some years on TV and got her first big break in movies with Spider-Man: Homecoming. And since then, there has been no lookback.

Zendaya has been part of back-to-back big-budget productions with movies from the Spider-Man franchise, The Greatest Showman, and the Dune franchise. These roles have made her one of the most commercially successful actresses of her generation.

If both Zendaya and Ronan’s careers are compared, it won’t be wrong to say that the latter has earned more accolades and fame on the basis of her acting. Ronan has been nominated 4 times for Oscars, and she has won 1 Golden Globe Award for Lady Bird.

On the other hand, Zendaya has never been nominated for Oscars, but she has won multiple Emmy Awards for her role in Euphoria. However, it can’t be denied that her other less-commercial films like Malcolm & Marie failed to work, although Challengers had a decent reception.

But it doesn’t come close to Ronan’s highly rated films like Lady Bird, which has a critic rating of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, since Ronan is willing to look for more mainstream projects, Zendaya will be getting a new strong competitor who has already built a strong reputation of being one of the best actors currently.

Although Ronan is more respected for her craft and filmography, it is also necessary to have that commercial appeal which is probably why she has finally decided to get into this path, and her fans will be waiting for the next announcement from her side.
