American-born Irish actress Saoirse Ronan appeared as Mary, Queen of Scots, in 2018’s historical drama movie Mary Queen of Scots, alongside Margot Robbie, Jack Lowden, Joe Alwyn, David Tennant, and Guy Pearce. The actress, according to reports, secretly tied the knot with fellow co-actor Jack Lowden in Scotland. He portrayed the character of Mary’s husband, Lord Darnley, in the movie.
According to the Sunday Independent, the actress and her long-time boyfriend got married at the Edinburgh Central Registrar’s Office in Scotland. It was an intimate affair, which included a handful of their closest family and friends.
The two of them were linked back in 2018 when they were spotted holding hands, and Page Six at the time reported that the duo were more than just friends. But the actress had denied all the rumors of their romance when a reporter for The Telegraph asked her if they were allowed to ask about the person everyone thinks she’s going out with. She gave a resounding ‘NO’. Ronan appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and was asked if she was dating someone; she replied by stating (via Irish Mirror)

Despite Ronan’s denial, the rumors about her and Lowden continued to swirl around as they were spotted together on various occasions. The actress also made appearances on the actor’s social media, including a recent one when they attended the Glastonbury Music Festival. The rumors of the duo being engaged started to spread in 2023.
The actor had posted a (now deleted) picture from the summit of Ben Vrackie in Perthshire, Scotland, showing a hand with a diamond ring. Fans believed that it was Ronan’s hand and wished the lovely couple, but neither of them addressed the speculation. The actor further mentioned that sometimes Saoirse Ronan gives a better performance than him off camera, and he’d be like, ‘Can you not?’ He also describes her as a force of nature both on and off screen, being utterly fearless and a brilliant leader.
During the interview, the actor was asked about their long-speculated relationship, and he acknowledged that the duo seemed to have a level-headed approach to the attention they attract. To which he mentioned,
She and I don’t find that odd. We’re hugely appreciative of the level of scrutiny we have. We’re treated well, but we don’t see it either. People have got it far worse. It’s also obviously of our own making. Whatever—as long as we’ve got each other, we’re alright with any of that.
Back in 2019, when the actress was asked about her relationship during an interview with ES Magazine, she mentioned that she was not going to talk about that as she does not like to talk about her personal life. Saoirse Ronan added that most of the actors she has known live pretty normal lives, noting that it’s just now and then they have to do something extraordinary or ridiculous, but her life hasn’t changed.
