Tom Cruise, the Hollywood star, is mostly known for his action-packed movies like Mission: Impossible, Oblivion, and Jack Reacher. He has been one of the few keeping the magic for cinemagoers alive by not having any exclusive OTT projects. However, now when theatres sell out just by his name; on the initial end, Tom Cruise started out small. But got success and fame not long after. Along came rumors and the public’s keen interest in his dating life.

Various accounts of Cruise’s journey are available. Be it interviews, some documentaries, or a co-star writing a book. Cruise’s co-star on the 1983 teen romp Risky Business, Curtis Armstrong revealed his experience working with the star in his 2017 memoir titled Revenge of The Nerd.

What it was like working with Tom Cruise before he became a megastar is something Armstrong discusses at length in his book. Armstrong praised Cruise’s passion and ambition, saying his co-star “possessed an absolute and voracious ambition.” But he was not as admiral of Cruise’s romantic explorations. This makes one instance in particular from the book a bit more notable than the others.

It is not a secret that Cruise has always been quite the ladies’ man. And the case was not very different when he was young. On the set of Paul Brickman’s teen comedy, rumors were making rounds that Cruise was dating fellow actress Rebecca De Mornay. Now, even though Cruise was not highly successful back then, he was known enough for people to bring their noses into his private matters.

As Armstrong recounts, Bronson Pinchot, who played Barry in the film, called Cruise a sl*t f**ker” during one of the scenes, which he took personally. The line was not a part of the script but an improvisation from Pinchot. But Cruise took it as something else.

As Armstrong’s account of the situation reads:

“One improv started heating up when Barry [Pinchot’s character] called Joel a “sl—t-f—er.” Tom got angry and said, evenly, that he didn’t f—sl—ts. Bronson said he imagined actually that he, Tom, had f—ed several. I thought it was funny, but Tom didn’t and it got very tense, with Bronson finally whining, “Joel, don’t do this to me!”

The actor clarified that he did not intend to be hurtful and made the remark out of jest. The pair were eventually okay, but the incident caused a slight rift between them.

In his memoir, Armstrong confirmed the highly speculated relationship between Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay and what went on set. He expressed in detail Cruise’s countenance and behavior. He says that not only was Cruise eventually in a relationship with De Mornay but the couple had an intense affair.

Armstrong mentions trying to figure out the enigma he felt Cruise to be. In one instance Cruise denied drinks with co-stars saying he had to work out and do the Bible reading before going to bed early. However, eventually, Armstrong discovered something that was drastically different.

“Returning late one night, I found three or four young girls […] lined up in the hall outside of Tom’s room. […] Tom’s door opened and another girl came out, adjusting her hair and taking off down the hall, while the first girl in line slipped into Tom’s room. This was a young man who knew something about time management and understood how to successfully juggle Bible study and bl*w j*bs.”
