The ongoing strikes in Hollywood have halted many films production. The SAG-AFTRA merged with WGA has brought the entertainment industry to a standstill. With many A-list stars joining the strikes and urging for improvement, The Top Gun actor also took part. According to reports, Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance during a negotiation session held in June with SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP.

Cruise has given audiences blockbusters films to love. The actor is known for performing deadly stunts on his own for the Mission Impossible franchise. 

The 61-year-old actor took part in the actor’s strike. It was reported that the Top Gun star joined the negotiating session held in June with SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP. During the Zoom session, he urged the studios to hear out the issues of the union.

The biggest issue concerning the union is artificial intelligence posing a threat to their jobs. The Mission Impossible star highlighted the significance of addressing the guild’s worries about AI and stunt performers. Beyond the AI debate, Cruise was also involved because he supported SAG-AFTRA’s position on stunt performers. The actor raised awareness among SAG-AFTRA representatives by discussing his thoughts on the precarious status of movie theatres in the post-pandemic age.

Even though SAG-AFTRA periodically permits individual performers to engage in these negotiations, it appears that Tom Cruise reportedly was the only actor of his caliber to participate in this round. The 61-year-old urged the SAG-AFTRA to allow performers to promote their projects, citing the financial aspects.

 Despite the Jack Reacher actor’s efforts, the union and the AMPTP were unable to reach an agreement till July 12, when the union’s package of film and television contracts expired. On July 14, the union started staging pickets and refusing to work at studios.
